Feels like on twitter there is a loud section of flames fans chastising the fanbase for wanting Tij. Clearly these are all children who never watched Jarome as a flame.

Personally I hope we get the opportunity to draft him and outside of Celebrini he would be the prime prospect I would like to kick off the retool with. I think he plays in junior next year for sure and a chance to dominate the world juniors but I feel confident he will be an impact player based on pedigree and rapid development this year.

Meanwhile Joe Iginla is a point per game as a 15 year old in the WHL so far.
Didn't the Iginla family want the Hitmen to pass on Joe?

I watched Iginla break into the league, and I couldn’t care less if the Flames draft his son. Drafting a player to appease sentimental fans is the kind of strategy I want this franchise to move away from, not lean into.

Ok, but it's not like the kid can't play. He's the real deal, and is going to be a top 10 NHL draftee whether we pick him or not.

Almost as dumb as not drafting him to make sure you don't appear sentimental. Have you seen him play? I'd start caring more. Dude's a beast.

How are their playoffs going? I don't know the answer but I know they are not as good as Iginla's.

Who his dad is and his last name should be irrelevant when it comes to our selection. If scouts think he is the best player when we pick they should draft him. If they think someone else is better than we should draft them. Simple.

I'm counter that opinion. It's not the be all end all, but being the son of our best ever player does count for something.

I don't think it will matter though, he's going to get picked before we stand up. Especially if he continues this play into round 2 of the playoffs.

I am just hoping that Tij legitimately is the BPA for the Flames when they go up to make the pick. It's a pretty realistic scenario at this point.

If Tij is available and the Flames select someone else, they're believing in that prospects potential so much more that they're throwing away [likelys tens of) million$$ of guaranteed business by not drafting Tij.

Can't see it.

Tij all day.

What does it count for exactly? Change the scouting list based on his last name? That's crazy.

It is great that he is doing well. Not sure how a small sample playoff run will affect the draft list, but I would think that would count for something. Elevating your game when it matters is something I would value. Not the last name.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

If he’s picked ahead of the Flames it’s not the end of the world as it means one of the consensus top prospect slides back hopefully in the Flames lap. I’m at peace with whatever happens as I feel they should get a good player either way.

Unless Iggy Jr. proves he can play, no one will pay to simply watch him play.

Draft him if you believe in him for sure. But he's worthless if he can't play. Like any other failed draft pick.

Teams win championships not one player alone. How many cups does Iggy have?

It would not be like any other failed draft pick.

They could put him into the lineup next year and sell tickets and jerseys

Tens of millions of $? No , not if he fails - But it would be very different from just another prospect

I think it counts for something ONLY if everything is equal or comparative ie. it's a coin flip between Iginla or some other prospect that's also highly ranked. Then by all means, we should take Tij, and there are definitely added benefits to having another Iginla in the organization. Conversely, there's also added risk, as that much pressure on the kid could also stunt his development.

Put it this way..

If the Flames somehow walked out of the draft with BOTH Celebrini AND Tij Iginla, and Celebrini became a superstar while Tij was simply a middle 6 forward, I'd bet you'd still see twice as many Iggy Jr jerseys than Celebrini jerseys at minimum.

People wanna argue his last name and who his father is doesn't/shouldn't bring him any extra value to the org, but that is simply wrong.
