Heres the thing. You come to my office after Tax Season and I'm in shorts and usually a soccer jersey and almost certainly sandals.
Thats fine. I've earned that. I did my 'suit and tie' bit.
Going into a Bank? I dont care if you're decked out head to toe in Armani I'm going to think you're an idiot until I can be convinced otherwise. Bankers? I've dealt with hundreds of them in my time. I dont care what they wear, my opinion is low.
Age and Experience.
Buying furniture? Some people would consider a well dressed furniture salesman to be 'Professional' but you know what I consider it?
"A well-dressed lie."
The more you have to dress-up to do a job, usually the less qualified you are to do it. Obviously with exceptions, some people genuinely like getting dressed up and thats fine. I have no objections to that.
I went and saw a prospective client a few years back and, because I do taxes for her entire family I agreed to go to her place of business rather than have her come to my office. That was a favour.
She gave me a bit of a bad vibe over the phone, but that happens. Can't read into that too much.
I showed up in my usual post-tax season attire, T-Shirt, Shorts and Sandals. And she says to me:
"You don't even care if you get this account do you?"
Nope.
I've got tons of work. I'm here as a favour to your family. The mistake you're making is that you think you're interviewing me whereas the truth is, it is very much the other way around.
So yeah, if someone can dress and act that casual in a Professional setting? You have to make a call. They're either a complete idiot or so outstandingly competent and confident as to not care.
When I first started doing taxes I was 18. I could have passed for 14. I had to dress professionally or nobody would trust me.
I paid my dues.

Oh I'm nice. Just not by force.
I genuinely want to help people. I have fixed Tax Problems that most people wouldn't even understand let alone even try and attempt. But it has to be fixed and I know how.
I have been doing this for many, many years and I got my start fixing the s###. Worst of the worst. But after that many years it can be tiring to keep taking on that kind of work.
There is a reason I use the GIF of Andy Dufresne as my post Tax Season GIF. To get the experience I have? You've got to wade through.
The biggest problem I have? I want to help. But dealing with problems isn't easy, but I'm good at it and I know how to do it, but make no mistake, its a grind.
My intern last year moved on to Deloitte. He just got promoted within less than 7 months of service.
Because what he learned from me in 2 years they couldnt teach in 10.
They ran into a problem they couldnt understand and asked him. He didn't know. So he advised them to call me.
Yeah. No problem. I know what to do. Sorted.

Why is it cheaper to replace a whole toilet than just update the tank.

I think it depends on the toilet. Years after my parents bought their house, they had to replace the toilet seat, and it was some fancy expensive toilet where it was cheaper to replace the toilet.

All I need are 4 inch flush valves.
Toilets are perfectly fine. No one seems to make em anymore...or its cheaper to just replace the Toilet itself.
I just paid 80$ for one at Amre as it was an emergency. However I have 2 more that will probably need the same thing as time passes.
New Toilets are 160 at Home depot right now.

Better make sure you get the "right fit" of toilet seat. Nothing worse than those tiny little circular seats... not really dude-friendly especially if your butt is a bit larger than average. Oh and also you can get taller toilets - as much as 2-3" higher which is great for some of us tall people, but not great for short people whose legs might dangle now. Next stop... squatty-potty.

I agree, I much prefer the elongated (oval) shape seats, as I can do both #1 and #2 at the same time while seating down...

Agreed on the oval shape, especially public bathrooms. Few things more uncomfortable than when your weiner touches the seat... knowing others have likely done so too. ew.

I personally hate when mine drops a foot down and accidentally touches the water, rgmg.

Found 2 more of the unit I bought today online.
Half the cost as well.
Should be good for a few years more before I have to replace everything...I hope.

So you're giving up your life of crime to become a full-time residential plumber?
