It's supposed to fix the biggest problem I've been having where my phone won't wake from the sleep mode and a hard reset is the only way to get things back to some form of working state.

Is there a way to get automatic birthday reminders for people in your contact list?

I don't think so. My coworker learned a rough lesson when she entered birthdays and anniversary's into her contact list and then found out there's no way to export those to ical. She had to re-enter them all into ical manually. She was pissed.

Edit: Ha ha! Nevermind: http://lifehacker.com/242623/display...thdays-in-ical

I suppose this unfortunately wouldn't work if you didn't have a mac though as it requires ical syncing with the iphone.

The other downside is that you need to create an address book entry for every individual - so if you have currently have one address book entry for a family of four (mum, dad, and two kids), ical won't pick up four birthdays - the only work-around is to create an address book entry for every individual

That is awesome, thanks man!!

Edit- Ok, but now is there a way for notifications to pop up regarding calendar events? Because if I create my own event, I can choose to be notified. But it seems for things like birthdays, or the Oilers schedule for example that I downloaded from their website, I can't create notifications for them.

What kind of case is everyone using to protect their iphones?

I just purchased my phone a couple weeks ago.
Right now I'm thinking of just buying the clear skins that you can purchase from the apple store.
I've also heard about bodyguardz and InvisibleShield, which appear to me to be the skins that apple sells + a shield for the back of the phone.
Anyone have experience with any of these?

At the moment I don't think I want to buy any case that will make my iphone any bigger than it already is.

Invisible Shield is the way to go. I used one on my hacked 1G iPhone (before Rogers), then I used one on my 3G and now I'm using on my 3GS.

No need for a bulky case or anything else. I just carry my phone in my pants pocket (just like any other phone). It's awesome. It even adds grip so you're less likely to drop it.

If you're wondering about its ability to protect your phone... I sold my Rogers 3G for $400 when I went to the new 3GS. My old 3G was literally in mint condition when I took the old InvisibleShield off it to sell it. After an entire year of carrying it in my pocket and dropping it on tables/desks etc... not a scratch or blemish anywhere.

Awesome protection + extra grip + zero bulk = win.

(The zero bulk thing is literal, btw. Not like those rubber things that are "practically" zero extra bulk. This really is no extra bulk.)

^^My phone's naked. I had one of those silicon cases but it was a pain in the ass to pull it in and out of my pocket. I keep it in my pocket with nothing else.

I picked up a clear hard plastic case from monoprice.com. They are super cheap. It is about the same thickness as a silicone case, but it smooth. So, it is easy to get in and out of your pocket.

I use this case because it give a little bit of protection on a minor fall (e.g. one metre drop). Having toasted one iPhone from such a drop, this is important to me. I've dropped it a couple of times with the case on, and the case takes enough of the impact that the iPhone comes out unharmed.

I also use a screen protector. I pick those up on eBay for pennies (including shipping).

The invisible sheild looks awesome, but it only protects from scratches.

Can you get invisibleSHIELD locally now, or is it still mail order from the US?

I bought mine at London Drugs.

Edit: I should mention that the InvisibleShield installation is not for the faint of heart...

The only reason I don't InvisibleShield is beacause I wanted NO PART of the installation process.
Bought a case from iSkin, and I enjoy it because it doesn't add too much bulk and doesn't attract the lint from my pockets.

Does anyone ever buy those iSkin cases? My friend ordered a purple one but doesn't like the light-purple look of his white iPhone in them. The case is supposed to be pretty good though and I noticed some Rogers actually stock them.

There is a way. The problem is that the birthday calendar is a subscription calendar. Why those won't allow alerts I have no idea, but they don't. All you need to do is export the calendar (which gimps it into being a regular calendar). When you reimport it you will be able to apply alerts. The obvious downside is that it removes the "live updating" aspect of the calendar, so if you add birthdays to contacts periodically over time, you'll have to repeat this step each time. Personally I've just stopped adding birthdays to my contacts and have started adding them directly to iCal.

The invisibleshield (also sold at the uofc microstore) is awesome, but the install process is intense. I have a cat, so while I was very cautious, I ended up with a giant hair across my screen. I tried to fix it but when the case came off it was pretty much destroyed. To be fair they were awesome about giving me my money back. The best tip I heard came after I borked the install: put it on in the bathroom after running a hot shower for 5 minutes. The air will be thick and there will be less dust/hair floating around.

I have the iskin revo2 and I adore it. Yes it adds a little bulk, but I really like the look of it. Had to order from them directly though as I wanted the black case and all the apple store carries are fugly and loud.

So my phone seems effed. When I try to call someone I can't hear anything unless I am on speaker phone. Thoughts?
