What is bizarre though, and I know they have games in hand, is they are only 6 points ahead of 9th and no playoffs, and yet they are supposedly Cup favorites. Lol

It would make for the best season in decades if the oilers somehow went on a really long losing streak and missed the playoffs.

After trading their first round pick.

While the flames trade Markstrom, Hanifin and Tanev but still make the playoffs. The flames draft Iginla with the first round pick from the Devils that would have been one after the oilers pick had they not traded it.

The Oilers are 4-4-1 since the All-Star break. I can see a losing streak beginning

And only one of those wins was against a legit playoff team (Dallas), a game in which the officials gifted them a McPP in OT to give them 2 free points.

They started Pickard against the Wild, so we get Skinner. That's interesting . Both teams still in contention, but the Flames believed to be big sellers while the Oilers are far from a lock. I guess the rivalry is their Stanley Cup.

The narratives the media runs with are funny though, with their darling Oilers.

"Oilers are a team on the rise and a cup contender" (68pts and 5-4-1 in their last 10).

"Kings are a team struggling and are falling out of playoff contention (66pts and 6-3-1 in their last 10).

That's like the one about the two-car race between the U.S. and Soviets, back in the Cold War.

Pravda reported that the glorious Soviet car came second, but the evil capitalist running-dogs came second last.

As of right now the Oilers would be playing the Knights in round one. They’ve got no chance with the depth and goaltending mismatch.

If that's the case, I hope this happens.
