Sure you can, but I don't think they put time back on the clock if they decide to decline the penalty (I might be wrong about that though).

Broncos aren't going to even make it past the divisional round with this pass defense. They need to start keeping the scores down or this is gonna be a wasted opportunity in Manning's short window.

And Hillman shouldn't get the ball between the lines ever again.

They don't but if Denver had declined the first penalty (or even take the yards added to the end of the return) then it would have only been one punt and only 8 seconds would have come off the clock.

It was the offsetting penalties on the 2nd punt that forced a 3rd punt.

While technically I guess you could keep taking penalties, they'd have to be post snap penalties obviously.

Denver kept asking for a re-kick (even on the offsetting call) because they needed a home-run style return/a punt block at that point with no timeouts left.

If they don't go for 2 in the 3 quarter, and Hillman doesn't fumble and they get in, that Prater FG wins it. Toss in the embarassing dive that Luck took which got the first down, and basically forced Denver into all their timeouts on the subsequent next 3 plays, and, for as poorly as they played on defense, and average on offense, Denver likely has a really good chance to win.

But yeah.....what a huge win that was for my Colts!!

Too close for comfort in the 4th quarter but what a play to force the fumble and keep it 39-30 when the Broncos were threatening to make it 39-37 with 3 minutes left. Davis, Freeman and MATHIS.......what a beast, I love this guy with all huge games. Vinatieri made 2 important FG's as well. Will save the best for last. Luck was awesome. 24 years old and so calm and poised. Made a few bad throws particularly the one to Reggie where he got injured (hopefully not too serious) but some huge plays to go up 36-17.

Thank god for the bye week now. Give Reggie and the secondary a chance to recover from all the injuries.

Funny how you don't mention that Vickerson was acting like an idiot all game. 3 personal foul penalties in the 2nd half! He has to take responsibility for that too. He just got 2 PF's in the 2nd half prior to that. The ball was out of Luck's hands for a good 3 seconds. Why even touch him at that point after you got 2 PF penalties already just a few minutes before? That's why Fox and Del Rio both tore into him on the sideline. Selfish plays after your defense got you a stop.

I still do not understand the Hillman fumble. Yes, it was a fumble...but how on earth was the call an Indy recovery?

They gave up 238.....thats pretty good. Denver lost because they took stupid penalties on D at the most inopportune times and because the coaching staff continues to trust known fumblers.

The crazy thing.........If the playoffs started this very second: Denver would be the #5 seed at 6-1 and would start on the road as a Wildcard team against #4 New England (5-2).

^ That's insane. Clearly the AFC is still the power conference this season.

AFC:

KC
Cincinnati
Indianapolis
New England
Denver
San Diego

Those are the 6 playoff teams as of this second. I think any of those teams could legitimately win on any given day in the playoffs.

Where as in the NFC the current 6 are:

Seattle
New Orleans
Green Bay
Dallas
San Francisco
Detroit

I think 4 of those teams are much better then the rest.

48 against Cowboys, and two weeks late, 39 against Colts. Granted Colts are a great team and Romo played ridiculous, but the defense hasn't been that impressive against teams that aren't pushovers. And it appears that Broncos offense isn't invincible and can be slowed down to ~30 points. So the defense needs to at least not give up that much points that they have to purely rely on the offense putting a high amount in order to win every tough game. Especially if the opposing defense is good enough to a force turnover that leads to easy score like it tonight's game.

That game reminded me a lot of the Broncos vs Ravens in last years playoffs except I thought Indy played better than Baltimore did. But in both cases the Broncos shot themselves in the foot with mistake after mistake. Not a good sign for the Broncos going forward. The defense was bad, even with Von. Special teams were bad. The offence wasn't up to its usual standards and the coaching was too conservative. Even Manning didn't play particularly well.

They need to get their poop in a pile.

they other day on ESPN, they were saying that if Irsay knew back then what he knows now, he would have kept Peyton. i disagree on that, you cant pass up a QB who can play for the next 15 years even for a few years of great play by Manning.... other than GB, i cant think of another team that has had the good fortune of geting an all star QB right after their HOF QB is gone.... Luck with his arm and running ability is similar to Rodgers, not there yet but damn good

Colts doctors initially diagnosed torn ACL for Reggie Wayne; everyone hoping for a miracle as he goes into MRI on right knee.
