Doesn't seem to be much of anything happening today. I think after spending 2 days last week freezing their butts off for relatively little action the media has grown tired of the story.

Latest on twitter seems to be based around the "we have the right to electricity for our laptops" quote that came out over the weekend.

Nope its real, beyond blaming the city for the guy setting himself on fire, they feel that free electricty is protected under the charter and the city should snap to it with the extension cords.

It really seems like the campers have morphed from a legitimate group of protesters into a small group of people who have found themselves with a bit of power/attention and don't really know what to do with it.

They had no endgame in mind, and it's really showing now. The city ask "ok, what do you guys want? What is it going to take to end this?" but the campers really have no clue "um uhh... we'd like to plugin our laptops"

They hopped onto the Occupy Movement train on a promise of a better tomorrow and now they've found the conductor has abandoned them and no one among them knows where the track goes or where to get off.

So a couple of judges have ruled that prohibiting Occupiers from camping is NOT an infringement of their Chart Rights.

When is Nenshi going to finally do something? Or is he intending to wait for a SCC ruling?

Honestly I don't think that the Occupy Calgary Plaza movement was ever really legitimate, I think the Princess Island Park one was. But from the start the Plaza protestors have had the feel of either self entitled snots, or the lunatic fringe.

I heard that they've planning this for a while (asking for power) and began rounding up stray extension cords a couple of years ago!

Yeah I guess I should clarify, when I say "legitimate" I'm including those who took part in the Oct 15th march which seemed to lead to the second camp at the plaza.

I agree, 99% (hey there's that number again!) of the clowns at the plaza have been entitled jerks from the get go. Anyone who may have had a point at one time have long abandoned that group.

A little power pales by comparison to this wishlist they are discussing on their forum.

http://forum.occupycalgary.ca/showth...full=1#post149

Quote:
1) That the city find a place agreeable to OC where we can hold GAs in safety and warmth.

2) That the city will cover rent for said place.

3) That the city pay for the rental of all equipment necessary to hold our GAs. For example: mics, amp’s, speakers, tables, chairs etc. Including internet access for live steaming.

4) That the city pay to hold sixteen GAs as stated above with time/date/location/format of our choosing. (Maybe even twenty to get us through our winter of discontent with weekly GAs).

5) That the city permit one tent at the plaza, or at a mutually agreed location, as an info booth to disseminate information to the public and to operate during normal park hours.

6) That the city provide electricity during normal park hours to ensure adequate lighting in and around the information tent referred to in 5) and provide assistance (CFD, Bylaw) in setting up an adequate and compliant heating system for the information tent referred to in 5). Also, that the city provide security for the information tent during off hours.

7) That the city pay for three evenings rental of the largest rooms at every Community Hall in Calgary for the purpose of holding public forums.

8) That the city pay for the rental of all equipment necessary to hold such forums. For example: mic’s, amp’s, speakers, tables, chairs etc. Including internet access for live steaming.

9) That the city pay to advertise all public forums. Including TV, radio, newspapers, community newsletters, etc.

10) That the city pay for a CPS presence at each public forum for the duration of the meeting

So item #8 on that list is a back up set of mics/amps/speakers in case the equipment from #3 breaks down?

Ok, I was pretty tolerant of this ridiculousness for a while, but these clowns need to be shut down. Their message makes no damn sense. I never have any idea if they're protesting the municipal, provincial, federal or international issues (they don't either apparently). Now they're making demands for free electricity and rent?

I understand that it is vital to take a pragmatic approach, but dammit, these protesters have had their moment. Shut them down.

I thought that the first cold snap was supposed to clear these clowns out? So much for that idea... What's plan B Nenshi? More warnings?

One of the followup posts that had me laughing

Quote:
My feeling is that this offer meets the movements basic needs. I have heard countless times that our fight is not with the city, here is our chance to show the citizens of Calgary we are reasonable, inclusive and solution oriented. I believe we can take this offer and begin growing the movement, finding more common ground, and getting the working groups working.
A) when you have a dozen people at most at the occupy site, its unlikely that anyone else is going to be interested in attending all of these forums and assemblies that that want to have
B) The reality is that these morons departed reality a long time ago, obviously they have no idea that the so called 99% would be forced to pay for this crap out of thier pockets through taxes
C) Thier fight might not be with the city, but the fight is developing that it is with the citizens of the city who are turning against this needy bunch.
D) Why the f%%% doesn't the inside workers union pay for this, they seem to want to jam their noses into the occupy movement.

I think Occupy should prepare to be self sufficient and not be dependent on the taxpayer.
Regarding item # 3, yet fully agrees with the other 9 points.

They have no clue where the money for all this stuff would come from.

They are not the 99%; they are the 0.000005% that don't understand there is only one taxpayer.
