I cringed so hard when I read that bit of his post in the Gaudreau thread. That's this guy's whole shtick on here. Post cringe, then get mad and throw a multi post wall of text tantrum when called out on it.

I ended up doing #1 and #2. The office is 30 minutes away, now I can make a pot and do some of the work I would have at the office, but at home in comfort.

I don't know what a company pool day is but I'm guessing it isn't as fun as it sounds.

We are a small company and look out for each other, pool days are fun. We live in a gated community and have a pool and barbecue area. Some friends/clients are invited. Something good will be on the smoker or charcoal grill. Really it’s just a day to relax rather than going to the field to check on operations.

Although, we were just on a corporate fishing tournament in the intertidal zone of the gulf. One team (not from our company) was wade fishing, wade fishing is where get out of the boat and fish off a reef or sandbar in 3-4 feet of water. The guide finds a good fishing spot out in the middle of nowhere, the guide sets the anchor poles and all five get out and start fishing. At some point they look back to where they parked the boat, and it’s gone!

The working theory is when the wind picked up, the waves push the boat off the reef into deeper water, the anchor poles were not on the bottom any longer, so the boat was adrift. All of the phones were on the boat.

Somehow, someone realized something was wrong and got ahold of the guides wife. She had access to the GPS and saw the boat had beached, the outfitter sent out other boats and found the lost boat. Once on the recovered boat, they followed the GPS tracks on the navigation system and eventually found the missing fishermen. The outfitter, who is our friend as well, was close to calling for rescue helicopters and needless to say, a little upset with the guide.

They made it back to the lodge in time for supper and had a hell of a story.

Had no idea that was even a thing, how high are the garage doors?

84” is common for garage doors.

Would there be room to squeeze in an opener and railings with only 8” of clearance? That is tight

You can get wall mounted "jackshaft" openers that go beside the door and rotate the shaft (where the spring is) to open the door. So no clearance is required above the rails.

Not a standard system, you’d need a low-headroom setup. However my opener in my last garage (1930/1940) was actually slightly lifted into the ceiling rafters (exposed).

I want to readdress the sock/short issue and add in shoes again. Shoes/shorts needs to be discussed more. IMO shorts= sandals, flipflops, crocs, or a low profile runner with ankle socks. Big ol clompers and shorts looks weird AF. Pepsi I know you're itching to get in here.

There’s a select but varied list of footwear that is acceptable with shorts, and regardless of anyone’s definition of what a “clomper” is, anything that could be “clompers” definitely aren’t on it.

Quite the quote to open the page to, before reading the context of it.

Westjet GMG. Sorting it out with the agent GMG.

Finally got through to Westjet and got a discussion going for compensation. It took so damn long, but one thing was discovered. It seems that Westjet is not educating their call centre employees well. Hours were spent discussing and clarifying with the agent and the agent would put the call on hold for 20-30 minutes at a time multiple times clarifying things. She'd say stuff that was totally false, then would change the tune after spending 15-20 minutes and confirming that what she was told to do was indeed not working... but then she'd be saying something totally different and making up a new reason why it wasn't working (perhaps a manager gave her a new canned response). At the end though, at least the agent said she learned a lot about the situation and realized that some of what they were instructed to say wasn't working, so she'd know for next time. It was kinda exhausting to hear them say, "Oh, we'll do it this time, but it's an exception."

It's almost funny. The crappy responses and reasons the agent was making vs how she was quoting the APPR could technically be used against the company in our favor. "It was maintenance, it wasn't the hail that caused the delay, so no compensation. Oh, you didn't hop on the flight, no compensation." LOL. Actually, the hailstorm is a legit reason to not pay compensation. Not unscheduled maintenance, which would require compensation. Yeah, we didn't show. You delayed our flight 36 hours which meant that the dress rehearsal AND wedding would be over and we couldn't contact you online or phone to book (as per your email instructions) to explain this arrangement doesn't work. Your company was dicking around with flights to the point that your website was saying the flights didn't exist on your online submission form. The agent I chatted with actually tried to go on the submission website and was surprised that the options didn't exist and then confirmed that she learned that there was reason why many weren't able to do it online (she kept saying it would be more efficient to do it online, we kept saying it wasn't possible). She'd say stuff like, "Oh, I guess the APPR website was saying to contact us so that we could tell you that you can't use the APPR website and you have to use our contact form (doesn't work)."

Be nice to call centre employees. They're stuck in between a rock and a hard place. It wasn't fun dealing with the agent, but it's not really their fault. Westjet is giving them an out of date playbook/a playbook full of errors and they're just doing what they can to get through the day. Stay calm and if you must vent, insult the company. Don't make it personal to the call centre employee and insult them. They will hang up on you for legitimate reasons. The lady we spoke with (3.5 hours after a 1.5 hour wait on hold to get to an agent) told us they will likely be fielding these calls regarding the hailstorm until November-December. She at least kinda thanked us for helping her learn something new and that knowing this would help her get through other calls faster. But it kinda wasn't fun listening to her comments (toeing the company line) about how it was all a special situation she was doing for us etc. over and over.

She also said something that my wife didn't like in the group call, but I assured my wife she was doing us a service by saying it. The reasonings and frustrations for the alternative arrangement we made for ourselves will be ignored if we put it on the form. However, there may be reasons for listing out why we were not taking the rescheduled flight (the wedding would be over) that might benefit the submission.

That being said, she's a call centre employee. I have no doubts there's software that monitors what she says and she might get in trouble if she says the wrong things or doesn't say specific things. So as annoying as some of the things she said, I don't blame her.

I'm sorta happy with the result. Now to wait up to 30 business days to see if they truly come through or if it's a lie. I know plenty of others have straight up given up. I know that I at least should get a full refund (vs only a refund one way and not both ways if I sorted it out online). Now to see if I also get the APPR compensation as well. Not necessary, but would go a ways to address the 30 hours of extra driving due to driving vs flying and the construction and crashes along the way.

Screw you Westjet. You're trying to weasel out of your obligations on purpose and putting these call centre employees in a #### boat situation.

Cannot. That's the issue. The APPR website requires some references the airline submission. It's like a circular reference in an excel formula with some additional broken aspects in between.

The APPR claim required us to prove we filed a claim with Westjet. The online submission on Westjet's site wasn't showing the original flights that were rescheduled. The site's selection options acted as if they didn't exist because the plane didn't fly. Why this is a drop down vs something you type in is dumb, but I assume it's so you don't get people filling in wrong flights. But this is also dumb to be lacking in info (ie: No option of "other) because that's the reason why you're probably filing a claim in the first place and it's required information so you cannot submit without it. Yes... we tried choosing a random flight. It then verifies we were never booked or rescheduled on said flight(s) and refuses to progress further.

The agent was also telling me that what she was doing on her side was navigating some type of complicated system on her end, one that dealt with 100s of airlines, not just Westjet. She agreed and was surprised that the original flight (rescheduled) wasn't showing up on the submission website. She had to sort through days/hundreds of airlines to pull up the data to fill in a claim form for us. She said she used to work in an industry that gave her the skills to navigate it for us, but lamented that many of the others might not have that skillset to do it. That's kinda crazy.
