Seems like it lately, with truck engines blowing up, fridges dying, etc. been a fun year managing unexpected stuff.
Only reason I’m spending time here making sarcastic posts is I’ve been on and off hold with Telus for 90mins as they try to apply a $15 Employee Program discount to my Account. Also trimming some unnecessary subscriptions, etc. All that stuff one should do to make sure existing funds go where they’re needed.
God forbid a government be held to the same standard. How many millions were spent on contracts to nowhere, along with all the other crap we hear whispers of? Figure that #### out before you come hat in hand.

Sorry to hear about that. And I acknowledge I've been a bit of a dick in this thread over the past 20 minutes.
I just personally find it a bit silly when people compare their management of their ~$150,000 annual income household and a single family home in Rocky Ridge with the management of a federal government with ~$450,000,000,000 in annual revenue to manage (and a territory of !0,000,0000 km2 to govern). They aren't the same things.

One day governments will need to get spending under control.
Current government spending as a % of GDP is significantly lower than it was at any point in the 1980s or 1990s, and is right in line (+ or - a couple of percentage points) with what it was in the 1970s and in the early 2000s to COVID period.
Basically, as long as publicly-funded healthcare has existed in Canada, spending has been about what it is now, or higher.

I have heard that you just do it to boost your pension since your pension is based on your highest income as an MP.

The actual answer is it’s not your money. People donate do you and you donate it to the party. It demonstrates you have outside support (for better or worse) to be leader.

Spending and services received for that $ seems to be the bigger issue at hand. Value for money spent with the current government has been well fleshed out in several committee meetings and visits from the Auditor general have been very clear in pointing out.
This Rick Mercer bit came into my Youtube feed today. I thought it was kind of funny. It's 15 years old back when i doubt anyone had him on the radar as a potential future PM.
Sadly 15 years later, this almost reflects well on him, he wasn't in it for the pension.
sad because things that reflect well on PP are sad.

If government did reduce that kind of waste, how would you know about it? How much would be enough? What are the conditions in which you’d say “okay, we have good government - I’m okay with tax increases”?
With a $538 billion budget, there’s no scenario where you stop hearing about 10s of millions being wasted. Just like no crime reduction program has ever knocked murder out of the news.
Without some kind of empirical analysis and comparison to other governments, this is all just vibes.

Clark is an idiot. It would not be hard to spin party switching as a strength right now: "I have always been committed to liberal ideals, but I lost belief in Trudeau's version of the Liberal party. I thought Charest could lead the country with common sense and save us from the stupidity we see today. Something something Winston Churchill."

I will be shocked if she doesn’t win. Seems to be right on brand for the Liberals.
She didn't even need to go after Trudeau she could have just said what she said before, that she took out a membership to vote for Charest to stop Poilievre. I get that all politicians lie as second nature but there is just no reason for it there. I think lying was just first instinct and she probably regrets it but the hole is dug now.
