Well fatigue is more a thing for teams like Japan who have no depth. Although you figure they're going full bus against either England or Belgium anyway, so fatigue likely won't matter.

To counter the weak bracket argument, I would much rather face Japan than Columbia in 1/8 - I can see England throwing today's match and then losing to Columbia. In fact, if I were to bet on the likeliest scenario...

Did you watch the Germany game yesterday? They looked pretty exhausted from the Sweden game and you cannot say it was not a factor. It effects top teams as well.
Belgium not starting Mignolet is their only non-tank move. But seriously, what ####ing odds could you get this time last year that Januzaj would start a World Cup game but Alexis Sanchez wouldn't?

But they made five changes to their lineup from the Sweden game. Poor lineup selection and poor motivation is why they looked like they did, not exhaustion.

Who is stoked for Panama vs. Tunisia this afternoon?

head of the tournament, punters piled in on a huge 225/1 shot that every team would score twice in the group stages, and only Poland and Panama have failed to do so thus far.
They both play on Thursday, against Japan and Tunisia respectively, and if they manage to score then it will be the first time in the World Cup's history that all teams have scored twice.
I do hope this Belgium/England tankfest at least leads to some changes. This was a highly anticipated game, fans paid lots of money no doubt, and they get what amounts to a (bad) friendly. Should just go with a draw after the knockout stages, group winners seeded and runners up not.

Eden Hazard's less talented brother even! Thats impressive. Fellaini I expected, but not Thorgan.
And neither Alderweireld nor Vertonghen. It's team tank all the way for the Belgians. I mean the English have gone that way as well, but there is little more quality in that side I think.

That would cause all sort of logistical problems, for teams travelling, rest between matches and fans as well as they have to buy tickets often months in advance. Argentina not winning the group sent Argentine fans scrambling to Kazan on Saturday instead of Nizhny Novgorod on Sunday.
And what if H2 draws A1? would they play on saturday?
It's not Champions League where there is a home and away leg played weeks after the draw.

Like FIFA gives a flying #### about the logistics. The logistics of playing a World Cup in December are nightmarish, but here we are...

Need a big Belgium win here to have any of my bets still alive. Or whatever makes them finish 1st in the group.
I would laugh if this is a blowout.
If I'm the Belgians I have full confidence that my squad can take on all comers after the Group Stage and I'd just put the boots to England's B-Team.
Changing players up all the time during a short tournament always seems dumb, set your best XI and play them, let them generate some chemistry and flow.
As of right now, my prediction would be:

^ I agree. You should play to win for sure. I have no idea why it seems like a good idea to switch it all up in hopes of avoiding teams. How can that be good for morale at all?

Not to mention team chemistry. This game means almost literally nothing, i'd get my stars out there and let them have fun.
One team wants to play the reserves then let them, but I'd be letting Lukaku and Hazard punch in goals for fun and pad their stats.

lol, i guess you did not see Toni Kroos out there, he was a complete non factor in the Korea game. Not that he played so well in the Sweden game but he was good enough to score the wining goal.
Poor motivation is part of mental fatigue. The fact is that if you watch the premiership it happens all the time. The big teams lose to Stoke or Everton after a big midweek game in Europe.
