Yes, awesome books. It was announced in October that Lionsgate will be creating a movie, tv series and video game based on the series.

Yup, I'm not much of a fantasy person anymore but this one stood out and I really enjoyed it. As you say, great world building, and the format is neat. And unlike ASoFaI the overarching plot actually moves forward.
If you like that one, you could also try out The Stormlight Archive, also has some good world building IMO. Though it's only got two books out, and it's got two sets of 5 books each planned for 10 total, so I may be suggesting it to drag others into the trap of yet another series where the author may die before finishing it, misery loves company.

Which since they're by the guy who finished the Wheel of Time after Robert Jordan died would be some sort of cosmic irony thing.

They'd bring in some author (who is currently 15) to finish it, while that author at the same time was also starting their epic 15 novel series but is writing too slow to finish it before they die, and by that time all fiction will be custom written for each individual by AIs.

The issue is he doesn't have an idea how the story will unfold. I've read and listened to all sorts of interviews with Martin, many of them about how he approaches writing. He does not outline. He does not plot out the books in advance. Instead, he lets his muse take him where it will. The story summary he wrote when he first submitted a proposal for Game of Thrones to his agent didn't survive the first 100 pages of the manuscript.
At the outset, he knew how he wanted the story to begin, and by partway through Game of Thrones he knew it would be a series and he knew how it would end. That's it. The fact that he originally thought he could wrap it up in three books shows that he lost his grip and doesn't know how to get from where he is to where he wants to end up. He's been chasing his own tail for more than 10 years trying to find a way out of the maze he created. It's not surprising he's frustrated. At this point his die-hard fans have a lot more confidence he will finish the series than the man does himself.

Not dead in the books, but dead in the show?
Stannis or Selmy.

Stannis wasn't shown dead though so if he's the one they could probably still pull it off. His daughter might be a possibility, or maybe the former leader of the wildlings.

would be nice if they did an hour long recap the week before the new season... the 30 second reviews they usually do don't really cut it with a story this big.
* I had forgot that Stannis died last season

Except the producers of the show have said that he is 100% dead. There was never meant to be any ambiguity, it was just an artistic decision to not show the actual death.

I hope its about one of them because I hated the way both of them died and I felt like Martin wouldn't be happy either, especially with Selmy.

I really thought Stannis would emerge as the Night's King, seemed like a perfect arc for that character.

Yeah but it's different. We know they are lying, they know they are lying, non book readers know they are lying. But they can't admit he'll come back. Plus they'd probably say he is dead. It's just that he'll be resurrected.

Jon Snow is 100% dead, and will be resurrected and thus free of his oaths to the Nights Watch and able to unite the Northern Houses for his half sister and rightful Heir (because they don't know Bran and Rickon are alive) Sansa Stark.
The only lie I have seen them tell is when they say "he isn't coming back." Unless they mean that Jon Snow isn't coming back, and he comes back as Jon Stark? Because Sansa, as the rightful Heir and Queen of the North, declares his heritage.

Or they simply just lied when they said Jon isn't coming back and therefore their word on Stannis may or may not mean anything

Why would the creators lying about Snow, a character we all know will come back, have any effect on their credibility on Stannis?
