You're probably thinking of the Oxford tower, but I seriously doubt that's going ahead in these conditions. Probably not a tragedy either, as it's a rather boring design.
I thought there was a new tallest tower set for the west end. I remember thinking there's no way it goes up and then a few people had mentioned it was still scheduled to go up regardless of the economy.
Yeah, I think that was it, table5. I knew it was probably too good to be true for economic realities to not affect a large tower.
If I remember correctly it wasn't amazing but still looked decent. I don't necessarily believe every tower has to change the l design standards to add to the skyline. I personally think the big empty spaces in the skyline take more away from our skyline potential than a slightly underwhelming yet still modern looking height pusher.
Yeah Oxford has gone completely silent on that proposal. Would be nice to see that design shelved and they can work on something really outstanding to give us in that space should the economics work out in the future. Plus make sure the height beats Stantec in Edmonton so we reclaim the tallest in Alberta crown.
Polak: Regarding Edmonton, we still beat the sweatpants off of them in both quality and quantity of towers. So I'll let them have the tallest victory for a while.

Yeah, Stantec will literally be two meters taller then Brookfield Place but lord almighty is it going to stick out like a sore thumb in the pale Edmonton skyline. Brookfield will be Calgary's tallest but it fits in nice with The Bow, Telus Sky, Suncor Energy etc all blocks away from each other. If the Calgary Tower was plopped into the Edmonton core right now it would dominate the skyline.
As an aside.. I'm I the only one that loves Jamieson Place? It's got like a cool evil Japanese movie headquarters vibe to it. Too bad the Winter Garden on the 15+ level is so lame.

Living in Edmonton, I am actually excited to see the Stantec Tower crest the skyline. Will change it quite dramatically when it is done, in addition to the rest of the Ice District structures.
There is a mega-tower being proposed for Edmonton on the south side of Jasper Ave in The Quarters area. That would be taller than the Stantec Tower as well.

Jamieson has grown on me over the last few years. Still a little busy in a few parts (like that crowns on the roof) but overall it presents quite nicely.
Jamieson is a really nice building. I love the art deco like features on the outside. Too bad the boxy Calgary City Centre has blocked most views of it.
The Winter Garden might be a bit spartan and minimalist but the air still smells fresher in there than anywhere else inside in downtown.
What's happened to the Eau Claire developement? Did it die again?

It's like a fortune teller from the 70s had knowledge of the future skyline, generated a rendering for this project, and locked it in a time capsule to be opened decades later.

Too bad. I don't mind the look. That's the building I thought looks like a vertical gen 1 PS2.
Said fortune teller also go Jameison Place, Calgary Courts Centre, and a whole dearth of other Calgary landmarks in there too!
