I mean that's bad enough. The fact that they're that incompetent at their only job would be pretty damning, but the fact they've known since 2018 that they were tens of billions too low and have decided not to take action because.... that might scare the people who should be paying for it? Jesus H Murphy. What the hell is the point of having a regulator if they are both too incompetent to understand the liabilities they exist to cover, and too impotent to do anything about it? How are any of them allowed to still collect a paycheck???

The Alberta government is opening up a new front in its fight with the federal government.
Last month, the minister of municipal affairs sent a letter to every city and town in Alberta.
Ric McIver asked them to provide information on all municipal-federal agreements that they have in place and to reply by Jan. 31.
|
Quote:
The City of Calgary said municipalities were asked to provide information on agreements they might have with the federal government in the following areas:
- capital funding agreements.
- building lease agreements.
- maintenance agreements for federal properties.
- mutual aid agreements with First Nations.
- funding agreements for cultural events (i.e. Canada Day events or fireworks).
- community mailbox agreements with Canada Post.
- agreements municipal bodies hold with the federal government (defined as any organization that receives 50 per cent or more of its funding through the municipality).

Otherwise what? Whats going to happen if they refuse?
Pull funding for municipalities that don't cooperate? And completely nuke their already shaky support?
Watch them forget about this request altogether when PP gets the big chair. Won't be a problem then, of course.

I can't imagine how much work this would be for Calgary and Edmonton. "Have it on my desk by the end of the month."

Reminds me of the relationship with Britney Spears and her father. Wants to be involved in everything and have money funnel through him to skim more off the top, then think only he knows what's best for her and take control of her life.

Good grief, the UCP is insecure and petty. This virtue signaling is of course, costing the taxpayer money and is the very definition of red tape. So embarrassing.

In a genius bid to outflank the federal government, Alberta has decided to strike at a target no one would have imagined... It's own self. Check mate Trudeau

Also, I bet you 100% that if Calgary doesn't do this, Smitty will leverage Gondek's image by sewering the arena funding... Making it look like she blew the deal twice... Flames will threaten to leave the city and incoming Mayor Dan MacLean will give them 100% of the money to stay.
That is how dumb our electorate is.

I’d love for Edmonton and Calgary to tell the province to pound sand. Maybe AM/AUMA should get involved.
