I'm looking to export all the sms messages from an iPhone. From the tutorials I've looked into, once you get the sms.db file off the phone the process is pretty straightforward and I can take it from there. The problem comes up with getting the sms.db off the phone: All methods I've seen so far involve jailbreaking it. It's pretty important that the phone isn't altered. However, most of these articles I've found are about 2 years old - maybe something has changed since then...?

Any advice?
Try this (I havn't tested it myself)

http://www.iphone-sms.com/

If you are on OS X you can try this software (Free 7 day trial)
http://ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/index.html
And here is a Windows app that is similar to the mac one
http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php

All of these do not require a Jailbreak

Just got the last one they had in stock at the Bell store at Market mall. I was told by the rep that they had sold 2 the day before, 1 yesterday and mine today.

Do you suppose it will ever be possible to give app icons a transparency setting?

Maybe already covered with the general 4.1 glitchiness posts, but here is my little issue. My Mail, twitter and FB seems to take forever to load updates or new mail. Sometimes shutting down the app from multi-task helps. Sometimes i have to reboot the phone. So my questions:

Is there a quick fix to this?
Am I doing something wrong as far as multi-tasking? I usually have a bunch going in the background because I just hit the home button to exit the app.

I close all the apps I dont need constantly and this still happens to me. Network congestion might be an issue, but it's ungodly slow sometimes even with good reception...some webpages load slower than they did on my blackberry.

It was suggested that you turn on Airport mode and turn it back off to try and fix it. It's quicker than rebooting the phone, and seems to do the trick for me...for a while.

So is this being dealt with in 4.2? It can't be network traffic, since it rarely happened with my 3G.

I would lean towards no just because I can't imagine that's a problem that comes up for too many people.

Does anyone use the phone with multiple Gmail accounts with different domains? How does that work for you, can you send emails from you@somedomain.com and you@someotherdomain.com?

This might not be related but occasionally when I try to use my blackberry to email myself a reminder from my gmail account to the same gmail account, it doesn't show up if I have sent messages hidden.

Not multiple Gmails, but I have both my Gmail and my work mail (Exchange) tied in, with the common mailbox view. When replying to messages, they go out through the correct respective email address automatically.

Better than going into and out of Airplane Mode is to 'Reset All Network Settings' in the Reset menu.

I do that a few times a week to keep things moving fast.

I just went back in this thread to hear the new SMS tones...are those really the ones that will come with 4.2? They are so terrible. Do people really want a song when they get a text message? I hope those are place holders or something. Blech.

Strange you'd mention it. Yesterday I heard 2 people with ringtones I've never heard anybody else use. One was the guitar strumming song and one was the blues piano riff. They were just awful.

Probably been talked about - but does anyone have recommendations for GPS apps that have real-time traffic updates?

This looks interesting:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/18/m...des-real-time/

Checked out the navteq website and it doesn't look like the traffic updates are all that "real-time"...

Can you use a giftcard to buy apps? I know at first you couldn't... has that changed?

Pretty sure you can use them towards app purchases now. Nobody gives me iTunes cards, so I have no way of testing this though
