"Good teams find ways to win," said troutman, a 25-year veteran. "If we're a good team, we'll figure out how to win. We'll figure out that other guys have to step up and play more, play harder and do more for the team. You can see where a team really stands when it faces adversity and you've got to come out on the right side. We've done it before; we've risen up and been able to work through it — and we've got to do the same thing here."
"We are out a top guy, our leader, so it's not one guy who can fill in for him," Locke said. "It's going to take all 14 players to chip in and play better and play harder and clean up our defensive game a little more."
"Aeneas has got a lot of character and he's a tough guy, so he'll be back sooner than later, said FlamesKickAss. With his competitive level, he won't be wanting to sit in the stands too long. It's a good feeling knowing he's going to be back soon — and in the meantime, we'll do what we can to get wins while he's not here."

Been there, done that. It does hurt like hell, especially the day after.

Anyhoo, just a bit of a game recap from the non-CP team in the Central league.
We played the other new team, the one from the U of C. Some damn nice looking ladies out there! They were a ton of fun too.
Best part of the night. So there is this guy playing first base. A fly ball is going foul (and out of play), but he makes this incredible diving catch. "PLAY OF THE YEAR"!! ...so far. I hated to have to tell him it was out of play, and that the ball is dead.
So what happens not a few plays later? There is an over throw at first base. The ball goes through the bushes behind their bench. And like a rabid pit bull, this guy goes CRASHING through the bushes (you know the thick ones at Crescent Heights). Just the sound of it was impressive, but to see this guy basically take out one of the bushes to get to the ball was freakin' hilarious. We damn near pissed ourselves laughing.
Definitely an "A" for effort! All in all, a great night for ball, and a lot of fun. Got to meet some people from the Central team too. Hope you guys had a fun game as well. Post what happened!
Cheers.

FireFly or Resolute will be putting up a surprise for everyone, and then you will find out how we did.

It was fun meeting the two teams in your game in right field. It will take a while to get used to playing on those adjacent fields like that. Good times though.

Pretty wild setup there, eh?
Bit of a price to pay to have arguably the two most central diamonds in town.
Umping there is key. If you can keep an eye on both fields and what is happening, things run smooth.

The guys from your game were great about giving us a heads up if they're play was about to endanger our players. Still a bit unclear about the home run vs. ground rule double rules when the ball gets into the other field.

Great question.
Rule of thumb. If the ball and/or player is unimpeded, it is live.
If there is any conflict "deep", go with the base attained, plus two.
We had that happen tonight. Our hitter put one pretty much dead center. Their fielder wouldn't have gotten to it, but got tangled up with one of your two teams players. As he had already rounded first, we gave him third.
If it happens right away (before the batter reaches first) then it is a double.
Umps discretion. Make the call as it would likely turn out.

What about if it goes into the trees... that's a double, or so I was awarded! Wish I got a homer.

On the field you played on, look for the tallest spruce tree. Anything to the left, rolling in, is a double, anything right is a homer. Fly it into the trees on the left. Its a homer.
On the diamond we played on, there is an opening, pretty much on the same angle as that spruce tree, vis-a-vis. Same rule applies.

Well that's the thing... we errored on a grounder that went into your field and so called it a home run... but we hit one that went into the south bushes and they told us that was only two bases...? That's what wasn't clear to me... I'd think that's at least 3 bases as it was clean through the hole and no one was around.
Anyways, didn't matter as we gave them two runs they didn't deserve and we still won 13-9! WOOT! SW Team, don't be letting us down on Sunday....
Thanks to RinkRat for pitching for us! She was fabulous!
*Edited based on Shawns post... so what you're saying is that they took it cause we didn't know any better... So really, we gave them 2+ runs out of naivety. It's all good. I didn't want to ruffle feathers so we just let them have it.

OK, on the first one. If it rolls into our infield unimpeded (no one touches it, which is what should happen) it is live. Play it accordingly. Our diamond will stop to allow that.
On the one that went into the south bushes, it depends where it went in. The tallest tree (a big spruce) on that side is the marker. If it went in on the left of that, it is a double (on the ground, homer if it is in the air when it hit the treeline). If it went in on the right of that, it is a homer, ground or air.
Hope that helps!

I don't remember where the ball went out, but it was a great hit. Cleared the fielders by 10-15 feet, a few bounces and into the trees. If those hadn't of been there, they would have been chasing it for a good 15 seconds.

Oooooooh... see, I think our fielders were scared to go crashing through your game over there! We'll not let that deter us next time!
