And I also remember you writing that Cootes has been playing difficult minutes, doing a lot of the heavy lifting which also helps to explain. Thanks for all your awesome posts on the draft.

What is the Max we can drop and have to pick worse in the order? Because that's what will happen.

At 16 we either move up or stay put (and give it to Montreal)

Best case 6 (if we win lottery), then worst case is Florida wins the cup and we get 32. Or we get 22 if Toronto can somehow beat Florida this round.
18 NJ is set in stone.

Has the highest non playoff team ever won the draft lottery? I don't recall any team that has.
Doesn't mean it can't be a first time today! Knowing the hockey gods and the Flames, that isn't likely. But hey, there's always a chance!

Tyler Hopkins is a guy I wouldn't mind seeing with a 3rd round pick. He's playing behind a lot of good offensive players in Kingston and while he has holes in his game I think you could see a big jump in his numbers next year.

The biggest jump was the Rangers when they moved from 14 all the way to 1 to get Alexis Lafreniere.

IIRC the Oilers were super close to winning it too. When watching it live I could have sworn an Oilers ball almost went in.

Puck Pedia has a draft pick value calculator
https://puckpedia.com/pickvalue
Based on their system you can make an even value trade with the Islanders.
You can get the Islanders pick 10th overall
In exchange the Flames send Devils pick (18th), the Panthers pick (32nd), and the Flames pick (57th).
What are the odds that a difference making center is available at 10 or at 18?
Is it worth trading 2 first round picks and a second round pick for the 10th pick in the draft?
Is McQueen worth taking a chance on at 10?
Is Reschny worth taking at 10?
Or would it be better to try and draft some three mix of Bear, Kindel, Ryabkin, Nesbitt, Moore, Gard, West and Horcoff?

This is the perfect year for Calgary to win because we only move up to #6 if we do (and the hockey Gods will never allow us a top 3 pick).
And we then get to keep the pick vs the Florida pick which is looking like it will be 29-32 range.
Make it so!

I think I'd stick with the 3 picks and get a mix of those guys. Unless something crazy happens and Misa (ya right), O'brien, Desnoyers, or Frondell is there, I dont think theres a big difference between the 10 tier and 18

- Win 6th OA in lottery
- Trade 6OA + Hank Mews + Jake Battaglia for 2OA
- Draft Mike Misa
The dream still lives for another 6 hours lol.

Probably depends how the draft goes and if you think you can get one of the top 10 centers by staying at 18.
Flames need centers or guys that could potentially be centers and I'd say there are 16 potential "center" targets in the first 32 picks.
These 6 guys are very unlikely to be their past the top 10 (NHLe listed if available).
Misa: 54.6
O'Brien: 39.3
Desnoyers: 34.9
Hagens: 32.2
Frondell:
McQueen: 29.1
Then you have the second group that it's a bit unknown where they could go, as they could be big risers.
Bear: 36.3
Martin: 33.5
Reschny: 36.7
Kindel: 37.7 (maybe a center)
And then the third group that probably goes 20-34:
Cootes: 26.0
Ryabkin
Murtagh
Nesbitt: 26.1
McKinney
Moore
I think if by pick 10 one of Desnoyers or O'Brien happens to be there then maybe you'd make that move, but if not I think you try to get more value there.
It's also why the Panthers losing would be good for the Flames...22 would be much better than 29-32 for that pick in terms of being able to get a 2nd center with that pick. At 18 and 22 you have a good shot at landing 2 of Bear, Martin, Reschny, Kindel, Cootes, Ryabkin, Moore....that I don't think you have at 18 and 29-32.

Took me a LOT more than 5 tries. But left it open and unrefreshed since.
