I'd love to hear from someone in Commerical Real Estate as to how mall contracts have changed. It used to be you had exclusive rights to a "category" of retail to avoid in-mall competition. Clearly this is no longer the case. I'm wondering if there's a compensation mechanism under existing contracts...or not.

The food and drink menu hasn’t been revealed yet, but the concept will feature a fusion of classic and contemporary cuisine.

The atmosphere of soigne, or to be dressed elegantly and well groomed, is the name of the game in this sophisticated room. There will also be a weekly lineup of live entertainment to look forward to. It sounds like a bar YYC has been waiting for.
Either that or Mister Mike's Steakhouse decided to go upmarket in a hurry....

There are still some places where these exist, without question. I wanted to lease space and the banks (there are two!), have a laundry list of “prohibited uses”.

It's not weird at all Southcenter Mall is exactly the same with Sport Chek, Sporting Life, and Decathlon under one roof. The market is perfectly segmented.
  1. Sport Chek is where you go to overpay for sporting goods that belong at Canadian Tire.
  2. Sporting Life is where you pay to look good on your luxury heli skiing trip with your rich hedge fund baby friends.
  3. Decathlon is where you go to save money when your friends tell you to join their casual volleyball team or weekend hiking group but you have nothing to wear and you'll probably drop out and stay at home getting fat & watching Netflix by next month.

I'm just super pissed off they took away the Winners from Market Mall and moved it to Northland.

Dude, their prices are bonkers low. You can try out a sport by buying your own equipment for the price of renting something for the day. I don't see how they could possibly be any cheaper. It's such a neat store.

Almost every product has a clearly defined value range as well so you can go for the cheapest option up to the higher end option all in once place. Everything is an in-house brand with 365 days return and RFID checkouts. It's IKEA for sports and the only modern retail technology store we have in Canada. They have so much affordable gear for almost every sport that Sport Chek and Sporting Life feel more like fashion stores than sports retailers in comparison.

I did see that they completely scraped their Decathlon mobile app and QR code scanners in the store though. I think it didn't work out.

How old are you? I can remember going to the Winners at Northland in early 2008.

My memory of shopping at Winners in Market Mall was my parents buying me clothes for school in 1998 and they got me sizes that were way too big because of how Winners gets random pieces not in all size ranges.

I'm on CP. I'm as old as dirt.

They moved in 2006 because we moved 2 blocked away from Market Mall and then a week later they moved it to Northland and put in Non- Sense in it's place. My wife was super happy but I was pissed.

A great place for kid's jackets.

I bought a $9 backpack for hiking from Decathlon. Does the job and it was $9.

Tried these pierogis last night and they are amazing. Extremely flavourful, with creative fillings - more like ravioli than pierogis. They're made by a family who fled Ukraine so I was also happy to support them.

Try the combo, you can't go wrong.

They just moved it to the old ATB location in the same parking lot. Apparently Starbucks is planning on closing most of their stand alone stores that don’t have a drive thru
