So, is it better to gauge goaltending based on a sample size of two games or ten games? My post was addressed to the guy who was worried about a two-game sample size.
I was responding to a concern about "the quality of [Flames] goaltending we've seen in the last 2 games." The Flames have two goalies. I am not sure why you chose to quote my post as a launch point for venting about Mike Smith.

Because Mike Smith has started the majority of the last 10...

Expecting that to magically improve get to the .920+ or so that is required for the playoffs is nothing more than wishful thinking. Especially when the quality of competition is ramped up and the pressure is on.
He is done, he will be forced into retirement in the summer.
If he plays in the playoffs, he is going to get lit up like a Christmas tree. I'd bet money on it. He makes Elliott look like Hasek.
The other team will be positively giddy if #41 is the starter in game one.

Since November 1st the Flames have received the 25th best tandem goaltending in the league. That's terrible.
In this time frame out of the 62 goalies by minutes the Flames have the 38th (Rittich) and 48th (Smith) berst goaltenders.
That's an above average backup and a weak backup.
Yikes.

I think one thing that should be considered is sending Sigalet packing. I think he's gotten below average results out of average personnel. The Islanders are a perfect example of the kind of results you can get with strong goalie coaching.

Vasilevskiy is 6th in SV% I really wonder where Tampa would be getting bottom 5 goaltending.

I know this is going to sound like I'm looking for anyone and everyone to blame, but I've been on the fire Sigalet bandwagon even before Smith came to town. I know the guy hasn't had superstars to work with, but every goalie the he's got his hands on has turned out worse after he's done with them. How that guy has survived 3 coaching changes is beyond me.

I agree with you but around here you need to now be prepared for all the posters claiming "well how can it be Sigalet's fault, no one can prove the effectiveness of a goalie coach..."
So buckle up.
But I am on team FireSigalet based on exactly what you said and have been since the offseason. at some point the absence of positive results has to become the facts.

That's with three different head coaches who all have different systems to boot.
I guess I'm at the point where even getting some "mythic bonafide #1" in free agency happens, he'll get ruined too.

Honestly, if Oilers and Flames swapped goalie coaches, I'd probably be ok with it. Anything to get Sigalet off the team.

I really don't think Sigalet is to blame. It has been a carousel of bad goaltenders.

Since 2014-15 here is a list of NHL teams to have failed to finish top 17 in the NHL in a single season for 5v5 SV%:

Honestly why do you think this? Even if you posit that every single goalie brought in has been utter garbage I can’t see how a single one of them ended up better when he left than when he arrived. So then his talent as a coach is his ability to exist? At some point you have to examine all of the options and maybe the sigalet might need to be replaced.
I’m not saying grab the pitchforks, I’m not even saying fire the guy, but why do you always vehemently oppose anything that could be construed as a negative opinion towards sigalet? What has any goalie here accomplished under his tutelage that provides evidence he should be deemed untouchable?
Unless you simply believe the goalie coach is irrrlevant so it doesn’t matter if he’s replaced or not. In which case again they can replace him because anyone could do the job.
