She countered with the fact that on the news the other day, a nurse was interviewed, and that nurse was not going to get a flu shot. I responded with something along the lines of "Well, there are people in every industry that deny blatant and obvious science. These same people drive home in cars and see thousands of exhaust pipes and don't realize that there are thousands of roads in thousands of cities, and all these cities have thousands of homes, and they're all burning gas, and yet we have no impact on the Earth's atmosphere". I was then accused of believing "environmentalists", and this was wrong because they are corrupt environmentalists that are only in it for the money. They're basically telling you that the climate is changing because - profit. And also, there's a cure for cancer, but "they" don't want you to know about it, because - profit.
We argued for a few minutes. There was yet to be a winner. Her parting shot was that ships are still getting trapped in ice in the Antarctic. Game, set, match.

The trouble is that the ship isn't caught in ice due to the cold... it is caught in the ice due to wind blown (blizzard- blown) ice floes -- for shipping in polar regions, it an annual summer occurrence
The closest weather station is 185 km from the trapped ship--- they have generally been having milder weather than Calgary
http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/89642.html
BTW Here is the rest of the continent ( the really cold places tend to be bases at altitude/ mountain)
http://www.wunderground.com/weather-...tica.html?MR=1
unfortunately people rely to much on common sense. For example, folks hear "ship trapped in ice in Antarctic" and they assume that it must be because of the cold we are experiencing here...
Thus I propose that "common sense" really isn't a form of knowledge or insight into a situation.

Another excellent example of the "common sense" that Chu uses...

The latest Herald article casts some interesting revelations as to the relationships and funding between developers and candidates... this was particularly interesting.
Quote:
The two biggest spenders, Ward 7’s Kevin Taylor and Ward 11’s James Maxim, each spent $276,500 for their losing efforts.
Taylor received more than two-thirds of his total donor haul from suburban developers, builders and contractors, according to a Herald analysis of his donor list.
After losing in Ward 7, Taylor sold his restaurant and earlier this year was hired as a general manager for Shane Homes.
|
Why is a Ward 7 inner city candidate getting so much of his funding from suburban developers? Would make more sense if it was inner city developers...
Anyone know the details on Sutherland and Chu's funding sources?

Oh for sure - a vote won, is another towards a majority vote - I get that. However, if that's your goal, why pick the hardest ward in the City to win over with a suburban right wing agenda? Go for the soft target, not the hardened one, guerrilla style. I can only think it's ego and the Druh factor.
What is more treasonous is that a man with a clear suburban agenda and interests purported to represent a inner city ward. Democracy at it's finest. And a man goes from running a Cheesecake joint to GM at a major house builder right after losing? That's a little odd isn't it?
Sean Chu declined to reveal election funding before I recall, has he finally done so?

It's not like they only went for 7. They won in 4, they tried in 11, they tried in 9, they even "tried" for the mayor.

Because in the event they were able to beat Farrell removing suburban enemy number 1 from office is a huge win for them.
Also, the suburban agenda is not "right wing".

2013 Calgary Municipal Election Thread
necro-bump, but former Calgary candidate Zak Pashak moved to Detroit and used his dad's money to start a bike company! Saw an article in Bloomberg;
