So ignore the racist and sexist language to not offend sexist and racist people?

Report is that the gop has had to remind their elected members to not say racist things. If you are worried about that its because you know they are racists.

No, but don't make it the core of your case. At this point, no one needs to be told that Trump is a racist misogynist. All that does is result in you falling into the culture war trap, which is the battlefield that Trump wants the election fought on.
This is why they keep going so far with the migrant crime, border invasion stuff: yeah, a lot of the rhetoric is pretty racist, but the underlying issue is important, so when the Democrats respond by leading with offense-taking it gives the impression that they care about "wokeness" and not real problems.

Address the argument ignore the words. You don’t gain any votes calling someone a sexist, racist. The marginal person who is ignorant but not hateful but may use some similar language occasionally is not going to be swayed by calling out people for being racist or sexist.
There are plenty of years in between to work on moving people to be more tolerant. Right now it’s meeting people where they are.

'I hope it backfires': Ex-GOP governor rips 'yahoos' rushing to TV to smear Kamala Harris
Quote:
Appearing on MSNBC with host Andrea Mitchell, former Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) lashed out at the smears of the vice president, hitting his ex-colleagues as "yahoos" and knocking conservative media outlets for giving them a platform to spew their voter-alienating attacks.
He told Mitchell, "Republicans have to be very careful. I've been thinking about this now for a couple of days. They start going really ugly against her, I think it could really, really backfire."
"They go ugly, I hope it backfires," he admitted. "You know, we don't have time for that in this country."
|
Quote:
"You know, she's formidable," he later added, "She's a formidable candidate, there's no question. And that is why, you know, look, some of these yahoos that are out there saying these nasty things, by the way, that is how they think they can get on TV — by the way, that's how they do get on TV — they say wacky things and insulting things and they are in the news."
"'Good job there,' some of their people tell them or supporters," he elaborated. "Fact is, it's typical politics and it could backfire when you are talking about a woman."

No. There's two intersecting points on this issue that need to be burned into people's conscience:
1. Many of the grifters on the right get the platform by saying outrageous things. This way someone listens to them and gets them a constituency because....
2. They play the mob "woke/SJW" victim card which brings sympathy from those who maybe don't share those same views but don't like being called out for their own inappropriate views.
To keep starting relevant, they need to keep this cycle going so they keep saying stuff that leads to 1, then 2.

Eh tolerance of the intolerant is getting old. If the message is racist and and sexist you can call out that it is both of those things and make an argument that their point is also wrong.

Sure, lets just continue to have people use the clearly sexist and racist "DEI President" term.
Look Voters, she is black and a woman! Get away from me language police!

I think the point being made is to not bog yourself down and ultimately start playing on their level.
They're trying to drag you towards stupid because they have home field advantage.

Okay, I'm sure you'll feel really chuffed about doing so and in many cases you won't be wrong. But if you're talking about the strategy that the Dems should use to win the election, you're wrong about that. Anyway you don't have to ignore the sexism, I literally just said that pointing it out is necessary, just don't make it your main counter argument because you won't win as many votes that way as you would by dealing with the substance of the issue as a priority. And there is plenty to attack there, too.
Unrelated, saw this on reddit - I believe this is what is referred to as "murder by words".
Also, unrelated, maybe time to merge the Biden dropout thread with this one. Currently there are two American politics threads.

Both threads seem to be talking about the same thing at this point, so there's not really any reason to keep them both going.

I tend to agree. The left should try to just sit back and let the right hang themselves with their own language.
Not all conservatives are racist, but the white supremacists are clearly in the right wing camp. They honestly believed Trump was their voice. That has percolated up to leadership, who will openly say Harris is only in her position due to DEI, or because she's a woman.
It'll play extremely well with the Republican base, and not at all with the majority of the country. I expect there to be a lot of it too.
We already know who the modern MAGA and GOP are. There is little point to finger pointing at this stage at every little racist taunt.

How are you doing? It’s amazing. It’s so amazing. We should send you into, I’ve always said get some of these guys. I have a lot of friends in that world. I don’t know. I think, isn’t Roger Penske, like, a great guy? The guy won 20 Indianapolis 500s. This guy (pointing to Childress) wins all the time. I mean, we appreciate talent. I said, ‘Let me use these guys to guide our military a little bit. When you can win so many races, that’s OK, you know? You guide. Same thing with coaches. You take some of the greatest football coaches, you put them at the table. ‘What do you like, coach?’ Because in it’s own way it’s not so much really different.”

When individuals in each thread start talking about themselves and taunting others, it's been handy to just switch threads to talk (or try to talk) politics.
