My thoughts on the episode:
- Definitely looks better than Season 2 (first half of that season sucked)
- Lots of cool zombie kills
- Rick is finally a bad ass, no more of his BS from seasons past.
- Good night sweet Hershel
- Maggie has a nice rack
- Michonne looks very cool
- Carl and Beth will bang
- Darryl is, like always, awesome
Bad points
- when they fire the guns there is no recoil, this stuff really bugs me
- not only do they not have kick back, but there is even a scene where the girl is complaining about her back being sore because of the kickback.

Things are looking rather desperate, Puppy chow. I better leave this thread since you guys watched at 7.

Also, I think T-Dogg had more screen time (and lines) in this episode than he did all of season 2.
This I am happy with.

Awesome episode!
It's like they continued the zombie killing from the end of season 2. Although I came to appreciate the character development last season, this season looks to be much more action packed.

Guns have bugged me for the most part. It seems they don't have huge ammo concerns unless it's plot required (like Legolas' quiver in the Lord of the Ring films).

Great start to Season 3. Poor Herschel is done me thinks.
The sexual tension between Carol and Darryl made me uneasy. LOL.

The first segment (where no one talked) was awesome.
What a way to kick the season off.
I still miss Dale.

About 30 seconds before Hershel got his leg bit, I was asking myself, I wonder how long this great will last without someone going down or before they find new people. Then wham.. Beautiful.
Glen Mazarra replacing Frank Darabont as show runner was the best part of season two. He gets this show.

And Darabont didn't get it? How so? There was some great stuff in that first season.
For the record, I have no problem with Mazarra taking over, but I am curious to hear an explanation for Darabont not getting it.

It took me 4 times to read your post to understand you put Merle instead of Hershel.
I agree on Mazarra taking over though. Season 1 was entertaining, but very messy in terms of story. The first half of Season 2 was rather bland, but the second half was excellent. With Mazarra, it seems the show has been more consistent.

I hope they didn't blow the entire season 3 budget in that first episode.
I wonder if we will get flash backs to the winter at all. I didn't really get the relationship between Michonne and Andrea. Did they just survive the winter together and now they are best buds?
Dexter and Walking Dead on the same night...I'm a happy camper!

Did I miss something about Andrea? Why did she say she'd die if they didn't leave right away? She's obviously sick or something?

Yeah this is part of why I was wondering if there will be a flash back...but there is likely too much story to get in this season to do flash backs.

I think Hershel lives. In the comic the guy who has his leg cut off dies (I think it was the twins' dad? They said in the Talking Dead it was Dale, but I seem to remember differently), but I think they'll go a different path for the TV version.
P.S. Zombies in riot gear? Awesome. Just. Awesome.
P.P.S. The zombie with gas mask getting his face ripped off was the highlight kill for me this episode.

comic spoilers
i just can't imagine that they would off Herschel in the first episode of the season when they could have given him a more dramatic end in the season 2 finale by staying on the farm if they wanted his character dead. hell he even went through the trouble of growing a beard

oh and awesome season premiere. looks like they're taking the best parts from the comic for season 3, along with spicing up a bit of their own original stuff. the previews look pretty damn good, very pumped for this season

Woot that was great! Kinda pissed at the ending though. They showed scenes from the entire season instead of just next episode's!
Also they have to kill off Lori. Sooooo damn annoying.
