I think Brad left because it is very hard to have success in this market - particularly during his tenure. Imagine this team with Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Fox, possibly Mark Stone. There is a reason a Canadian team hasn't won in 30 years... it's an uphill battle.

I'm surprised nobody's talking about John Chayka as a potential candidate (I'm actually not sure if he's still suspended by the NHL) but Maloney did bring him into the league, unless he has bad blood over Chayka replacing him in Arizona.

Is it his sister who is putting out those detailed advanced stats?

I would rather hire her.

Didn't he pull some sleazy stuff in Arizona?

I could look it up, but i recall he was trying to enter into a deal to lead NJ whilst still being GM of arizona. It lacked integrity and Bettman punished him for it. Given how tight Edwards is with Bettman, i highly doubt Chayka would be considered here.

I think he is still blackballed. If it was only about how he left the Coyotes then maybe he gets back in but the private prospect combine might keep him out forever.

I'm most intrigued by what Steinberg & Francis were discussing late last week. How the internal audit was apparently a deep one and everything the Flames brass suggested they'd look at, they did. That included coaching. Pair that with the silence we've had from Darryl and I'm very curious just where everything stands. Hopeful, even.

I wonder if we ever hear from Darryl again at this point he isn't giving his end of season press conference.

Seems like the last time he got the boot and just disappeared. Torpedoed the franchise and we never saw him again until he was holding the cup in LA.

He literally came to the next game to sit in the stands as a fan with Chris.

Agree. Sucks to sign a coach and walk away from 8mm, but it's a sunk cost.

Now the decision prospectively is....

a) fire Sutter and sign a new coach ($5mm over 2 years let's say)

or

b) keep Sutter and have an increased probability of missing playoffs next year times profit from those games. Or can also probably put a number on the impact on profits from any underperformance from players checking out including two pricey new players (measure in fall in "value for pay" in Kadri and Hubey). Or damage to reputation and increased cost to bring new UFA's here, etc etc.

Not sharpening my pencil here. But it becomes easier to see that the prudent profit maximizing move might actually be to fire Sutter.

Really strange for Darryl to just slip out the back when the season ended like that.

Or is it? Maybe that's just Darryl.

Surely one of these 20x posts a day from Paully Shorenuts will be true.

Wither it's Darryl or the Org, I think it's clear that if you put Darryl in front of the media 99% of the questions will be about his relationship with Treliving and why Tre left etc. With an organization that is huge into spin control right now, they probably don't want that. Or maybe the review Maloney is doing actually isn't lip service. Who knows.

All I know is that when/if Darryl speaks to the media again it’s gonna be hella awkward

Pretty sure it was also mentioned that Darryl is dealing with a family issue right now. I don't know if they implied it was health related or other.

What did they say that was inaccurate? I don't think it was a drive by.

You post 20x a day and the vast majority are insane musings that barely approach rationality. Here you've asserted multiple times that Darryl ducks out on the team without facing any backlash, and someone immediately countered your claim. You seem to frequently make assertions without evidence. You do post 20 times a day, almost. Everything t5 said is true.

Surely if firing the coach is on the table, you don't make that decision until a new GM is on board.

Agree in general that Sutter's contract should not stop ownership from firing him. The Athletic has suggested teams probably bring in around 1.5 mill per home game, with that being up at least 20% (depending on the market) for playoff games. If you think a new coach gives you a meaningful chance of making the playoffs over Darryl, then 3 games or so of playoff hockey will make up his contract in the year.
