In Ward 8 (Wooley), Natalie Winkler has the rich areas locked up on signs alone.
Looked at her policies and the big one that appears to stick out is her anti-neighborhood plan stances.
Elbow and Mount Royal eat that stuff up. I don't think she is Save Calgary shill though. Will see who can separate themselves from the rest of the bunch to oppose her.

I am predicting there is going to be lots of buyers remorse after this election... Many of these candidates are running on a platform with zero ideas other than than the current council is bad....
Many citizens don't want to spend more money on taxes but at the exact same time want increased services...
The problem with many these new people running are in the pocket of the developers who will expect approval of many of these new suburban growth opportunities which costs the City lots of up front money. So these new councilors only choice will to be reduce the services that many Calgarians actually want to pay for that.. and actually increase taxes as well because when they realize while not perfect there actually isn't that much waste at City Hall.
Even Rick Bell today was trying to change the story.. That even after Nenshi leaves it is actually City Hall that is the problem..

If we were still in Ward 8 like we should be, we'd be in for Cornelia Wiebe.

Full disclosure: She's a family friend. She's been very level-headed and rational whenever we've talked politics, and I think her personality lends itself well to playing nice with others while also not being a doormat when challenged.

I like the ‘time for change’ crowd. It’s like the antithesis of developed rationale.
Change from what? And to where? From consistently being ranked among the top places in the world for livability? 3/4 agreeing the City is a great place to live? 94% feeling the City is safe? One of the largest pathway systems in the world? Or being one of the lowest taxed cities in Canada?
I want a ‘time for change’ type to come to my door. I’d really like to pick their brain on what needs to change to actually be an improvement and see what kind of ideas they have on that. You know, beyond pushing privatizing to support their economic interests (Brad Field) or populist ideology (Farkas).

Yup, same with the "Save Calgary" types. Save it from what? Save it for whom?

Their whole raison d’être is the 0.001% of the City’s budget that got spent on public art.

Same thing with Erin O'Toole's slogan for the federal Conservative party: "Take Back Canada". I wish someone in the media had the guts to ask him from whom he wants to take Canada back. I mean, everyone knows he's talking about those people, but make him squirm and own his naked appeal to racism and xenophobia.

If it makes you feel better, I'm positive that is supposed to be a populist appeal to taking back Canada from Liberal corruption and the 'Laurentian elites.'
The conservatives need ethnic minority support in the suburban GTA to win an election, a fact they are deeply aware of.

I just want to vote for whoever will cut the Roads budget. That department seems to have an endless source of money to build new traffic lights, unnecessary left-hand turn lights, traffic calming, right hand lane blockers, and other stupid things that are totally not necessary in a time when we should have been tight with the purse strings. Its absurd and infuriating

The city just put up the most useless traffic light outside the Market Mall parking lot a few weeks ago on 40th Ave. When I first saw it I thought it was a joke and I couldn't help but shake my head. It is the most pointless traffic light I have ever seen and whoever did the feasible/traffic study that recommend a traffic light there should be fired

The roads designers are second in hell, immediately after the goofballs who went full on with the LED street lamps.

While I’m sure it’s useless, the 53rd/22x light has to be worse. Fear not though; I saw the real reason it’s there on Saturday morning. The police were there to nab speeders. A new fishing hole and annoying people driving to/from the mountains is just too good of a combination for them to ignore!

Has anyone seen that single traffic light at the entrance to Superstore when you come off 130th in the SE? Its the most ridiculous one traffic light I've ever seen in my life.
I have no patience to explain it, but anyone who has waited at it knows the absurdity.

They are putting in infrastructure for three new lights on Jean Laurie Blvd (Brisebois Drive, Charleswood Drive and 19 Street N.W.). The city says it's for future after analysis is done but the reality is that the lights are coming and it's going to cripple the morning commute for thousands of Calgarians.

Seriously? Ugh. That's such a nice road to have free flowing. Can we cancel the Calgary Roads dept?

That stinks. I knew they started work on finally improving/repairing John Laurie between Shaganappi and 14th but I didn't know they were installing lights at each intersection. That is stupid. I could maybe understand lights at Brisebois as there is that parking lot for Nose Hill Park which is pretty busy. For the other two I'd actually be okay with them just closing off those intersections entirely.

The only movement you would really need to close is making a left while going north to eastbound, because you are dealing with 2 busy traffic lanes. Every other movement isn't that busy and can be done safely.
The problem with closing them completely is you force a lot more traffic onto Northmount, which can't handle it.
