I have to say, he's made a good first impression on me. I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the hiring before, but I'm feeling better about it now.
That radio interview was very good where Kerr asked him about the players, he said he was reluctant to speak about specific guys because he didn't want to forget any. Then, Kerr handed him the roster sheet and he was able to go down the list and had good knowledge of all of them (even had the pronunciation of Kylington correct). He barely took a breath as he went through summarizing every player on the roster.

Will the 960 interview be anywhere?
Am turning a corner based on this thread but haven’t seen the press conference or interview personally

As I've said before it wasn't a sexy pick by the headline, but like most have expressed I liked what I heard. Definitely seems more stern which I think is needed with this young group.
Beyond that the proof will be in the pudding. As mentioned we're likely to see him kick things off with some different pieces in place which makes it really tough to predict.

I think we're definitely gonna see some movement. I wouldn't expect all of these guys to be Flames by camp.

Also hopefully this will spell the end of the Alain Vigneault pining on here.
Yes he's a good coach, but he's also directly responsible for one of the worst, emasculated and deplorable brands of hockey we've ever seen in that late 00s early teens Canuck team.
Just his involvement in that flopping circus of embarrassment is enough for me to be glad we'll never see him anywhere near this team.

Peters was solid in the 960 interview refreshing to hear a Flames HC that has a believable level of hockey IQ.
He looks the part sounds the part I have high hope he will be tge structured HC the team needs.
Proof will be in the 2018-19 stats.

Yes and that’s why I said that it’s on Treliving to find the right players. No coach is going to have success when you collectively get 19 goals from your right shooting forwards lead by Troy Brouwer with 6. That’s just embarrassing.
I’m convinced that no new coach can work miracles on this group until more speed and skill is infused into the line up. I’ve been saying that for a long time and with every new stat I see, it only reinforces that notion for me.

I can see why Treliving was impressed working with him prior. Seems very confident and intelligent. Not a lot of wasted words or pauses to collect thoughts as he had answers and opinions ready to go. Time will tell if this is the right hire but first impression are very good.

This team doesn’t have any real burners. Gaudreau might be the closest and we gave up Byron who absolutely was. But like Treliving said, the style of play is going to be similar and in my opinion, it’s all going to come down to what Treliving does from here till game 1. We need better right shooting forwards in the worst way and that should be priority #1.
|
Speed is also about effort. This team did not play hard all year. So if Peters can motivate them, the team will be better automatically, system flaws or not.

Also none of that psycho babble from Gully's hiring interview. Honestly Bill Peters talking about anything hockey is such a breath of fresh air for me.
It really does inspire confidence.

100%!!! It's actually quite amazing how he rattled off that roster and how his takes do seem genuine and honest. Seems super smart and did his homework before.
Definitely not a lateral move, already feels like an upgrade from GG. How it will transition on the ice, we'll see. It'll come down to the product on the ice, but this is definitely not a lateral move.

Yeah, they said they'll post the full interview and also the roster call out. Steinberg just said on the radio that the roster analysis was one of the first of it's kind that they've ever heard and it lasted 4:32.

My favorite take away from his interview, is talking about speed.
But most just focus on foot speed when they hear that. He was very specific it means many things.
Foot speed, pace of play speed, making plays speed, and gap speed. Those are all coachable things sans how fast a guy skates, but even then there is a way to be quicker by taking correct angles and knowing where to be.
If he can just get this club on the same page with that stuff alone? He will be successful here as that has been a huge problem in the last several years.
Like many have already stated, I feel a bit better about the guy than i did yesterday. I really hope he translates.

I think Peters came off as a hockey junkie in his radio interview, which I really like. Either that or he has been really well prepared in the last.... week?.... about the roster, he seemed to have a good handle or at least a cursory knowledge of every player on it. I think, considering that hes been coaching in another conference, that remarkable.
