The big thing is not that they beaned him, it's that a minor league hack did it as the last game of the season series as it was ending. It's like they got all uppity about baseball's code and then pissed all over it themselves. There's no chance you're going to be held accountable, it's like punching someone over the ref's shoulder. Then Odor... he's a hothead and it was even worse how he tried to throw the ball in Bautista's face.
Bautista's a hothead too and frankly he's done lots of stuff in his career he could have got beaned for, flipping his bat after winning a playoff series should not one of them. It's one of those things that outside the Rangers and their fans only old angry white dudes who hate the world get worked up about. And I think the Rangers and their fans hated getting beaten more than anything, and the bat flip just gave them a flimsy excuse to retaliate.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said. Bautista is in the wrong by going in with a slide like that. Last year it would have been fine, but everyone knows it's no longer allowed, so infielders don't try to protect themselves against it. That makes it a dangerous play.
The reason it gets called a sucker punch is because only one guy is throwing punches at that point. Scrums like that happen all the time in sports and it usually only ends in shoving. Bautista doesn't protect himself from a punch because he isn't expecting it. People keep saying Odor was just faster to punch, but when you look at the replay Bautista hasn't even made a fist by the time he gets clocked. That doesn't look like a player getting ready to fight.
Bautista should probably get a couple of games for his slide, but Odor should be suspended for at least 10 IMO.

If Bautista doesnt retaliate and uses your explanation then its perfect.
Reporter: what did you think of Bush throwing at you?
Bautista: Didnt effect me at all. If that was for last year then they are cowards having a rookie throw at me in the last game of the year.

How anyone here can defend Odor is completely beyond my realm of comprehension. This isn't hockey. Players aren't wearing helmets/mouth guards and expecting to be punched.
Hate me all you want for being a Nolan Ryan fan as a kid and sticking with his team. I'm trying to be impartial here.
I wanted to give a non-Jays/Rangers perspective knowing I'm going to get flamed for it, it's for the benefit of those who aren't too blinded by their love of the Jays.
I feel that as a fan, I'm likely the only one who can give this perspective so I am.
You guys need to grow the #### up, Fat jokes are juvenile and uncalled for.
Get over yourself, I'm a pretty Heavy man myself, but I'm not a professional athlete with access to team chefs and personal trainers 24/7. I don't know where you see the fat jokes on my post, I have no problem flat calling Fielder a slob. This man signed a 214M dollar contract and decided he no longer even had to make an attempt to train anymore. He's so out of shape now he can't even play the field when he used to be one of the better fielding first baseme in the game when he was with the Brewers (and he was a large man back then).
When asked about his abysmal performance once he responded that "My children are taken care of and my family is taken care of".
Spare me your lecture, this guy is a professional athlete. If he doesn't like his appearance being criticized he should stop collecting those 24M paybacks and go do something else. I'm sure the Rangers would be doing cartwheels if he did. I still can't believe they took that contract on.

I won't stand down for a second, it was completely uncalled for. If you want o criticize a players performance, attitude or something about their game go ahead. But no one has the right to call anyone fat or a slob.
And you don't think mocking his diet and saying he eats 5 pounds of sugar a day doesn't qualify as a fat joke?
Also makes me laugh that the guys who are among the most worked up in these things are the 50 plus year old managers who all look like they want to throw down.

@JustinVerlander that's true. I thought there was tension from both sides. It does make for a great conversation.
