You are correct. The Flaming C is wrong and it usually is on most concepts based around a 3 colour white flaming C. There is always too much black outlining the white.

Here is a 1998 Calgary Flames red jersey.

I think the point of the red outline is to keep the yellow from getting washed out against a white background.

I don't like the outline on either of them. Just keep the original C from the 80's. It was perfect.

Yeah I'm just not a fan of the "San Diego" outline, where it's spaced out like that. I much prefer the yellow outline right against the crest, it makes the C actually look like it's glowing like a flame.

I am pretty sure there is a slim chance that they go to the retros next year.

Long story short, based on my observation and knowledge, this is the the optimal variation for the fantastic flaming C design:

This would just make too much sense and would be too easy to do. They are perfect. My faith in this organizations ability to do the right thing when it comes to jersey design tells me it's probably more likely we bring back the pedestal jerseys than the original 80s jerseys though.

There's hope though. This past year the Flames axed the 3rd jersey in favor of promoting the retro and including the retro color scheme (no black) in all advertising.

If they don't make the primary jersey retro coloured themed at the least after bringing back the jersey, and using the logo in their marketing this season, I will be incredibly annoyed by them blue balls-ing me like that. You don't do that the season before you change your uniforms.

I kinda felt like the marketing this year was maybe and indication towards the retros coming back.

The concourse was re-painted in retro colours, the season ticket package was retro colors, the website was retro colors for the most part, etc
