I live in Ontario and I can go to private businesses selling liquor. The City Market down the road from me let's me get beer or wine with my groceries. It's kind of convenient.

The Breakdown
And there’s the updated amount ministers and the premier can accept per brib…
Er…
Gift.
$500.
Per gift.
More than double the previous amount.
Because Smith wants hockey tickets.

Oh fun!
They didn’t just increase the amount that Ministers can accept as brib…

They raised the bar for staff as well, with higher values of the premiers chief of staff approves it.

I have more liquor stores within a 10 minute walk of my house than convenience stores.

I had to think about it: I have the same number of liquor stores within 10 minutes' walk as convenience stores, but the liquor stores are located ever so slightly closer to my house. That is to say, pairs of liquor and convenience stores are located a few doors from each other, but the liquor stores are all closer to my house than their corresponding convenience stores.

My walk to the local pub is 10 minutes, the walk home is 30 minutes - the difference is staggering!

For me this is a wait until evidence comes out because if you read the governments report on the inspection that council was terrible. So it’s a let due process play out.

I think it's possible for both the UCP and the Chestermere council to be terrible.

Yeah, not to put to fine a point on it, but on average politicians are terrible. And these specific politicians have a worse-than-average track record.

My wife had to undergo an emergency gall bladder removal a couple weeks ago, followed by another surgery to insert a stent. Through that process, scans revealed a mass on her kidney. The emergency physician said it looked like cancer but we'll need follow up scans to be sure.
When discussing this with a surgeon on the ward, who was quite dismissive of our concerns, I said I'd go through work to get the MRI. He said that was unnecessary and "a lot of paperwork" and they'd get her in for an MRI "right away".
We got the letter today. Her MRI is scheduled for February, 2025! We were shocked and thought it must have been a typo. A call confirmed that no, 2025 is the next available appointment.
What the actual ****? How can there be such a backlog in diagnostic imaging? Is everyone working taking a coffee break after every patient?
If it is indeed cancer, I wonder how long it will be before treatment, 2026?

I believe that the most sincere and honourable politicians are at the municipal level (although some of them are also nuts) and the higher up the worse it gets.

Alberta Health Services is terminating a contract that affects many radiologists at Calgary and Edmonton hospitals next year and the head of a group representing those who will be impacted says “the timing really couldn’t be worse.”
“This really couldn’t have been announced at a worse time and it just comes across as cruel and petty,” Dr. Robert Davies, president of the Alberta Society of Radiologists, told Global News on Monday night. “In the short-term, radiologists, like other physicians in the province, are focused on getting prepared for the COVID-19 epidemic.

This is what happens when you treat HCW like they are toilet paper. Another winning move by Alberta Conservatives. We should probably just give them another term now. Cruel and Petty is a pretty great tagline for the UCP.

If you have the means, look into Mayfair Diagnostics. I paid $750 to get an MRI on my knee after blowing it out during a hockey game when AHS was suggesting my MRI was going to make 6-9 months. Admittedly, that price was in 2010 so who knows what that has increased by.
It sucks ass to pay out of pocket and it feels like enabling the sh-tty decisions from these UCP idiots to make our healthcare worse, but don't f-ck around with cancer. If you can afford it, do it. She'll get an appointment in like three days.

Yep it sucks. It’s also not a recent or Alberta issue. The best thing you can do is pay to jump the line, if you don’t know anyone to jump the traditional line that is.
Do what you can to get a diagnosis and then you can get treated by our “system”.

When I moved I rang up to get an MRI on my shoulder, it was $600 and the lady told me I could come at 11. I thought she meant the 11th which was two weeks away, and that sounded amazing. She actually meant at 11 o'clock which was in 25mins.
Later when I did finance for medical equipment it's kind of ridiculous how cheap MRI, CAT, etc equipment is and there should be way more of it.

Please let us know here if paying for her to get the MRI privately is an issue for you. I would be willing to kick in for that and I suspect others would as well.
