Yeah, Anaheim isn't close to contending yet and not ready to push their chips in so they would keep the 2nd

That 2nd pick won’t get traded unless the team wanting the pick has either the 3rd-5th pick and overpays for it. Or if someone loves a guy that Anaheim wasn’t going to take @ 2 and knows they can get him 3rd-5th… but rarely happens.

I don't think this is a true statement. Nor do I think you watched a lot if wranglers games. Next season Zary will see bigger minutes and we will get a good look At what zary can be. I think it's another year in the Ahl for sure, but he is still a good prospect that can definitely be a middle 6 player in the NHL.

Garrioch:
the Senators will elect to take winger Alex DeBrincat to arbitration at Thursday's 5 p.m. deadline. He doesn't want to sign here, the club can get a 15% discount on his $9 million contract if successful so it makes sense.
^ so $1.35m off 9m.

Feels like they're following the exact template of the Tkachuk deal last year.

People are undervaluing Fantilli. He would likely be the #1 overall in every draft of the last decade except McDavid’s year, and maybe Matthews.

True. Of course, if Duer is one of your best forwards most nights, you'll miss the playoffs.

Yes, a hockey team relies on multiple people performing well in their roles.

It's not a question of it being enough, it's a question of whether Anaheim really values those two in a trade.
They would need to sign them to huge extentions to make it work, and what does that really accomplish for them?
They lose out on a potential franchise centre while getting two very players at huge cap hits. It makes no sense for them to do this. It decreases their chances of eventually building a Stanley Cup winner, while increasing the Flames liklihood.
There is zero chance of trading for the #2 pick without having the #3-5 pick and a can't miss prospect to offer

Exactly. If Flames were the ones with the 2nd overall pick drafting Fantilli, would you trade it for that package? I certainly wouldn't.

Is Treliving the new GM for Anaheim?
He is probably the only GM that would do those kind of deal

Based on all those times Treliving traded a high pick away for two pending UFAs.

Hopefully Zary will get a shot next season. I’d like to see him fight for the #4 C spot in camp - he’ll probably have to beat out Rucizka.
|
That's BS. He played almost the full season in the AHL last year (72 games) plus playoffs.
Our development system is garbage. This is the only team in the league not giving their prospects any playing time in the NHL. We had a team backed up with useless veteran journeymen, and the team spent picks to acquire many of those journeymen.

Gotta disagree with you there- he USED to be deficient in his mobility, but he’s obviously worked diligently on fixing it. I watched him like a hawk in camp, and in the few Wrangler games I saw, and he’s good in that area now.
