4.2 Gold Master was just released. Official release should be any day now.

OS X 10.6.5 will hit at or before the same time as iOS 4.2 since it is required for AirPrint (for NON Hp airplay enabled printers).

Video AirPlay is not yet available since the AppleTV is not at 4.2 yet either. No beta was available for aTV.

My mom has a 3GS that I told her to update from osx 4.0 to the newest release (4.2?) last week. Ever since she upgraded her battery life has been terrible. Like she unplugged her phone and 4 hours later of just sitting on her night stand and it is at about 60% battery life.

The phone is maybe 10 months old and there were no issues before the update so I am pretty sure the battery is physically fine. Anyone have any suggestions?

Same with my wife's. It's become a paperweight. Anybody know if there is a way to revert back?

Only way to revert is by saving shsh blobs, which neither of you would have had done.
in ios4 some apps run in the background. Apps like Skype have been identified to kill battery as it keeps you logged in the background. (ios4 added multitasking)

Maybe it is the multitasking. Tell them to check, they may have like 14 apps running still. I know when I got a ton running it kills it much faster. Not that drastically though.

I don't believe this is true. I reverted my 3G from 4.01 to 3.2.1 (or whatever) about 6 weeks after 4.0 came out without any SHSH blobs. I just downloaded the old firmware and did an option-click restore to downgrade using that particular version. I did have to run some other program to kick it out of recovery mode, but after that everything was fine.

I think I used a guide on lifehacker when I did it.

That only works on the 2g and 3G. 3G is a "soft" shsh. Cannot downgrade 3GS or 4 or iPad without shsh. Fact.

Ok, my wife has just purchased the iPhone 4. When you talk on the phone there is buttons that appear on the screen for things like "speakerphone", "hold" etc.

Our problem is that when our son is talking to me at work, or to grandma or whoever, he will often inadvertently press one of these buttons. It is really starting to get annoying. My wife also finds that she can't talk and press the phone up against her shoulder if she needs to use both of her hands to talk, or else she too will put the call on hold.

So my question is, is there some way to disable these buttons while talking on the phone? or decrease the touchpad sensitivity, or something? I am sure we are not the only people that have found this to be a problem.

That was addressed in 4.1 I believe. Is it updated?

New iPhones should come with 4.1 out of the box.

I just press the lock button after the call is connected. Unless this is a different issue.

That might be it.

My neice and nephew use her phone like it is an xbox when they are there, so it is likely that they might have caused it with a bunch of open apps.

FYI For those iPhone 3G users 4.2 further optimizes the speed of your device in comparision to 4.1

Rogers Retentions (that is if you are eligible for a HUP)

I'm 28 months into my contract, so I guess I should be good there. I'll see if I can navigate the system.
