There are a lot of conflicted people in the states. Now some are dumb. Some are deplorable. But many are conflicted.
They’ve spent years in a party that has aligned their church.personal values with their politics on the Republican side. It’s always been a easy vote for those people. That has changed the last 8 years where they are seeing the party separate from some of those personal values but they don’t feel they have anywhere to go so hold their noses and vote Republican still. I don’t think they are necessarily dumb but are just lost.
The prominence of the Tea Party forced a system that was set up to come together and govern from the middle into an all out left-right divide where either you control everything and get something done or get absolutely nothing done.
The only way to fix it is with a viable centrist party but that just will never happen in the US unless you have big name center-left and center-right politicians come together in an truly official way.
