I think Baertschi and Khokhlachev are pretty similar in size, same age and statistically similar in the AHL.
Khokhlachev might have a better case as far as not getting an NHL "chance" goes though. Baertschi had 66 NHL games (most of them sub-par) when he was traded. Khokhlachev has a whopping 4 games.
I would say Baertschi had a decent look. I don't like either player complaining though.

"They called other players up and rubbed my face in it" ring a bell?
And there was his dad talking as well (which many poo-pooed but turned out to be pretty accurate).

I really don't see what the fuss is all about with what Khoklachev said. It was legit and it was honest. If he was dogging it on the ice and said that, well then there'd be an issue. But he isn't. And why all of a sudden is Sven better?
Svens best year in 2013 was 26 points in 32 games. Then he fell off the cliff, hard, face first into Vancouver.
Khokhlachev, has been consistent for three years since coming to NA and no regression or drop off.
Like I said, I wouldn't mind it at all if he found his way onto the Flames, there is no room I get that, but he is a good player. He'll be a full time good NHL'er. And better than Sven.

Wasn't it rumored he was asking for 7+ million. He's definitely a huge part of that team but they do have a lot of good young players so maybe they have to consider keeping cap available for other guys and at the same time feel some of these other guys could provide similar production in his role. Plus you'd probably get some good assets in return. I actually think its a good option if the demands are really high.

If we have a couple d prospects prove they should make the jump, who would you trade and what would a reasonable return be for them?

I think Stajan still has some value (3rd?)
Raymond would have to be packaged with prospects or a pick to unload
Russell would definitely have value (2nd?)
Smid and Engelland we will have to bury or buyout
Other players who could be moved include Colborne, Shore, Granlund and Wotherspoon...

Point is he didn't whine about his treatment publicly, Treliving was the one who brought up the whole thing.

If were trading Russell I'd definitely like to see more than that. Otherwise just keep him. You'd figure Russell might like to stay in Alberta though so maybe he's willing to sign for a discount. If your gonna lose him I think you could get a pretty solid package at the deadline but thats a tough decision if the team looks like it could make some noise.

No reason to trade Russell or Colborne, as whomever we replace them with wouldn't be an improvement. Shore is a problem, as he plays or someone picks him up on waivers.
Raymond, Engelland, Granlund and Wotherspoon could be on their way out, packaging an old guy with a young guy. I also see Hiller as the third goalie at this point, but still having value. Definitely will see some moves, just to make the math work before the season starts. That or we leave some guys exposed and see what happens.

I think Shore is a perfect fit for our 4th line C. I do not want him moved. Stajan at his price tag would be the odd man out, no?

I would agree but good luck finding a team to take on Stajan's contract.

The Flamea rebuild has gone much quicker than anticipated and the result is significant cap space being eaten up by players that could be replaced by prospects. Stajan, Raymond, Engellend, Smid. That makes up over $12.5M in cap space that could hinder the teams efforts to keep all 4 of Gaudreau, Monahan, Russell, Hudler

I wonder if T.J. Oshie might be a free agent candidate to aim towards in 2 years, or a deadline acquisition. A lot of salary comes off during those years and the 2 big names up for contract renewal are Bennett and Ferland, and Oshie hits free agency too. And as much as I'd like to keep Hudler, I think he becomes too expensive to retain.

I'm not too sure. He seems to love it here, taking a real leadership role and creates chemistry with almost anyone he plays with. If Ortio/Gillies work out, we have close to 8 million coming off the books just with Hiller and Ramo. Plus if BT works his magic, could be doable if he's not asking for superstar money.

Agreed, every team needs a couple long-term vets. Gio and Hudler would be great for us going forward IMO. Plus I think both appreciate being on a team on the upswing.
I think with Jones, Bollig and one of Hiller/Ramo gone plus potentially Raymond, Stajan, and two of Wideman/Russell/Smid gone we should be able to make it work if he is willing to sign for 6 or less.

I don't get it, getting rid of Hudler to pay Oshie? Wouldn't Oshie want big money as a UFA anyway? It's not like they could choose not to pay Hudler and sign Oshie for nothing, Oshie is a good player and I"m guessing a few teams would want to sign him. I'm willing to bet Hudler signs for not much more than he's getting now.
