Gah, still stings to see him in a Nucks' uniform.
But he didn't adapt to the Flames system. Management never wanted Sven to change his game to theirs. They wanted him to play HIS game in their system and it seems as though Sven mentally couldn't adapt to that which ultimately led him to not accept the system.
And I don't know why but I feel as though Mason Raymond is what Sven will eventually be like.

Not good today. At all. Speed isn't there. Ice IQ is invisible. Honestly I thought he would have been better.
Sven has a long way to go.

From the interviews I've seen, Sven has been very professional when asked about the situation in Calgary and feels that Vancouver's puck possession style of play is more suited to his game than the north/south dump and chase game the Flames play...
Back to Burkey, you'd think after all of these years he'd have purchased a filter and learned to keep issues within the organization and regarding draft picks he might be wise to take a moment and look over his draft record while in his previous stops and show the humility that his record demands....
|
Wait, Johnny Gaudreau plays dump and chase?
I absolutely disagreed with the decision to trade Sven, but he has to accept some of that blame for it not working out...
Last time I checked Hartley played a ton of kids this year, and if Sven wasn't getting PT, it was because he wasn't doing the things that were being asked of him...

Didn't Schremp, I mean Sven score today? Damn, I wanted him to lead the Canucks to victory over stupid Winnipeg.

It's because he only had 10 minutes of ice-time, therefore he wasn't given a chance. That must be it, because with a Baertschi, a chance doesn't count unless it's on a top line with powerplay time.

Sven only played 10 minutes
He should have got way more
The coach must have a vendetta against him

Not a horrible start but faded and wasn't good in the 2nd or 3rd.
Couple dumb penalties don't help his cause.

Actually towards the player.
If people are so fine with him being traded, they should just move on and not take so much pleasure in pointing out a crappy game.

It's mostly towards the player. I basically agree with JiriHrdina's take - started off looking dangerous, but disappeared after he took a couple of penalties. Understandable; trying to impress the new team, something negative happens, and from then on is just playing not to make a mistake.

Did what I expected of him today. Had a couple nice plays in the offensive zone early on, sucked defensively and a couple lazy penalties. Will hold out for a bit longer before I start saying the Flames won the trade.

The two are linked.
People wouldn't have such strong reactions either way if not for the extreme positions being taken by both sides in the debate.
That being said, the narrative that has been out there to some extent since this trade that Sven was somehow mis-managed by the Flames, is causing I think an expected reaction from Flames fans.
And that shouldn't be surprising.

It's not surprising, there's just a lot of it.
