I know that 1up gets talked about a lot on biking forums, but this rack also gets a lot of mention on pinkbike
http://northshoreracks.com/NSR%204-bike.htm
I would have ordered one, if I could have had a good look at one up close.

Ratracks makes something similar. It's a guy here in Calgary, but I believe he only puts out a few a year.

Super easy to replace. If you hold what's remaining of the brake lever in all the way, you should be able to detach the cable, then you can remove the brake off the handle bars. Need an Allen key, and it should just come off, or you will have to take off the handlebar grips and then slide the brake lever assembly off.
The levers are pretty cheap. Get a new one at the LBS.

I took my bike in, as during the tune-up they moved my seat all the way back. They remeasured and found it was off by a couple inches. It made sense why my ride was uncomfortable. While there I asked about the wheels, and they said my rims wouldn't support the tires that I bought. They let me exchange it, for a better tire, and I was going to pay the difference. I decided to pick up a second tire, just in case too. They felt bad about the seat and the first tire recommendation, so they let me exchange the first one straight up, and charged me the lower tire's price on the second tire. I was pretty happy.

It's La Bicicletta in Vancouver. Great people there, that I'd highly recommend.

I'll be in Vancouver next week. What's some good cycling over there? It may determine where I find accommodations.

How long and/or what distance do you want to go? Do you want elevation changes? Mountain or road bike?
Whatever your answers are to the above, just avoid the sea wall. It sucks, and is filled with people. The worst are the joggers who run in bike lane, because they don't like the payment in their lane, which is three feet away.

Whats a good road or road hybrid bike to get started on? I've been hitting the bike paths on my mountain bike and having difficulty keeping up with my friends on road bikes, is this normal?

Road bikes are usually lighter and faster. Mtn bikes are good because they're rather bulletproof.
If you're looking for new, I think MEC has some decent starter bikes out there. Or look for a used one.

What's a good place online to look for routes in and outside of the city?
I want to change things up and I'm looking for a 40km-80km road or path ride in the south of Calgary. The river bridges still being down and 22x being scary as hell limits my options for getting out of McKenzie Towne for a good ride. I don't mind loading up my bike on the car and getting out of the city a bit.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

^ ktrain - i am assuming you are talking 'bout riding a road bike?
have you tried riding out to bragg creek, seems that lots of people park on 22x by spruce meadows and ride from there.
i think that hiway 1A is also a choice for a lot of folks - but if you don't like traffic then this may not be the road for you.
got to be some stuff south towrds longview or maybe 22x?

Yeah, routes for road bikes.
Bragg Creek might be the ticket. Where do people park on 22x? Just the side of the road?

K train.
Head out to the parking lot of 22x and 37th street.
Head south from there, and there are plent of road back there wehere you can knock out quite a few miles.
The route to Millarville is good, and you can take the "Road to Nepal" which has some awesome climbs.

Are hybrid 700c 40 wide faster then a mountain bike with deep tread? I realize that a true road bike would be the quickest but can one maintin a 25km/hr on a hybrid?

Easily. I know a guy who can maintain 40 km/hr (possibly mph) on this:

As funny as the post above is (the 55 lb blue chopper bike that an extremely disabled man can apparently ride at 112 MPH), yes, anything with 700c wheels will typically be faster. I find the sweet spot for 700c tires are 700c 35's. They feel as quick as road tires, but have enough give for day to day use, and hopping the odd curb.

I'll probably be bringing my road bike. I have a wedding to attend but I don't have any other activities lined up and if I have time to myself, I was thinking I'd cycle around the city?
I usually do distances of 20-80KM inside Calgary.
