Groundhog Day with this team. Destined to be the Portland Trail Blazers of the NHL.
Indifference/apathy starting to take hold, think I heard Stienberg say there has not been many sellouts this year, maybe none at all.

The question is what the Flames braintrust takes away from that information: That they need to get back to being a playoff team as quickly as possible; or they need to do everything they can to increase the odds of drafting a superstar.

Yea it does take two, and he’s been very adamant for the better part of two seasons now that he’d rather go UFA and make a decision thats best for his family. Honestly, he’s earned that right and I don’t fault him for it, but let’s call a spade a spade and be honest with why both sides prefer to move on.
|
Well isn’t that one possible interpretation of his comment? He’s the one not interested in negotiating?

Well honestly I think the point is probably moot for the time being but is there a link or something that points to his views on certain states vs. others?

Certain folks will use the fact the Flames "tried" to extend Rasmus as evidence that they aren't technically rebuilding.
They are trying to extend Rasmus the same way they tried to extend Lindholm and Hanifin.

To be fair…he didn’t say WHICH side didn’t want to tango….so he’s not wrong or disingenuous about that.

You made handfulls of assumptions, assume they're all right, then challenge me to come up with 2 teams that might make a competitive offer? LOL
An argument could be made for 8 or 10 of them, but it's pointless to bother, because we DO NOT know which 13 teams are on his list. You can attempt to guess what he wants all you like, but you aren't going to go 13 out of 13.
Also, as I have said, assuming a team won't be interested, simply because they have 2 Cs that you think are sufficient is folly (injuries, for instance). And finally (again), cap space isn't an argument because, as we have seen over and over, year after year, teams find a way to make room when they want to.
I am done with this debate, but for the last time, there is no chance that Kadri could pick 13 teams in advance, and successfully block any and all chances of a trade. You guys are in dreamland here.

I just don't think you can make that declaration with certainty. But what we do know is that he's tried just that in the past. We know he liked Calgary and it's team but put it on the list to try and avoid being traded at all.

I think we are looking at the wrong problem. The 13 no-trade list isn’t the main issue at hand. I am positive there would be a team that is not on that list that we can trade him over to if they offer a good package. The problem is ownership and management willingly letting Kadri stay. It’s as if the list is pointless. Conroy doesn’t seem like that guy that will be THAT cutthroat to trade Kadri, *unless* it’s a big, big package that a GM would be fired for if he refused it. I just don’t see very many GMs offering a big package for Kadri based on age, even though we all know how good Kadri is and deserves the package we desire.

Apart from the obvious Dallas and Vegas landing spots for Ras, wonder which other teams would be realistic possibilities (outside of Toronto, who want him but don’t have what we are asking for).
Thinking of the following
Washington (some smoke out there)
Carolina - on the fence. Aren’t real players for rentals and were burned by Rantanen
Red wings - have need but yzerman is one of most conservative GMs out there. Would he give up anything good for a rental? I have doubts.
LA - have had interest in past. Have made cap room. Kempe now extended so less certainty on direction of team. Have LA or Andersson changed viewpoint since the summer?
Wondering about interest level
Nyr- aren’t contending but very attractive for a variety of reasons (geography, lifestyle). Better than they are showing and could use help on back end.
Ottawa - have been rumored to have interest but could be on no trade list. Team on upswing that could use a good bet
Anaheim/SJ - lumping them together as are in same boat. Not true contenders yet but have nice pieces that will help them contend soon. If Ras plays long game, could be possibility.
Utah - good collection of pieces but can’t put it together. Like Anaheim/SJ but should have faster timeline to contend.
Hope we can trade with a more asset rich organization than Dallas or Vegas but these teams have a lot of pull factors in their favor. Hopefully a team pulls a Minny and steps up with a solid offer.

Wondering if a border town like Buffalo (prob not due to competitive reasons) or Detroit could be acceptable.
Commute to Detroit from Windsor or to Buffalo from fort Erie. Yes, have to cross the border for home games but family can still live in Canada.
Prefernce seems to still be in Canada but would he look at either of these us cities?

Detroit seems to me to be the best bet. I would also have said Winnipeg but I don't know that they are a buyer.

Winnipeg should still be the bet. They have their core locked down for the entirety of Kadri’s remaining term, they desperately need a second line center and they cannot really sign UFAs. They have 25 million to sign 9 guys right now for next year, Kadri with no retention would leave them with 18 million for 8 or some retention could reduce that amount. Not sure what they could offer to blow Conroy out of the water but they are not going to find a second line center anytime soon by any means other than a trade.

Yeah, but they are in last place (albeit with a game or two in hand, plus their goal differential says they could be a lot better pretty quickly). I guess if they think Hellebuyck will make a comeback they will push for POs.
But they have not much in the way of prospects. Yager and Barlow are underwhelming. I'd take Perfetti, who's struggling this year but has upside.
