I unfortunately stumbled across Jr's TikTok and he called his daughter sexy.
That was so gross

Unfortunately it's paywalled. I read it by viewing the page by proxy. It's an excellent column, definitely a must-read.
Anyone who thinks a Trump second term on par with the first in terms of its danger to freedom and democracy... REALLY needs to pay closer attention and quit lying to themselves.
it doesn't matter. Bringing facts to a political discussion in 2024 is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. Sad times.
I don't care if I agree with every word said in that video. I'm not going to watch it just because of that ######ed headline. I know it gets clicks to use DESTROYED and OWNED in capital letters but it instantly DESTROYS your credibility in my mind. Leave that crap to beanie boy (I don't like name-calling but I can't remember his actual name at the moment and I'm not looking it up).

Yes the pay wall is a pain, particularly when it comes to Andrew Coyne who I find myself agreeing with on just about everything.
The main takeaways are that there is ample evidence Trump and the Republicans will abuse their powers and undermine American democracy, perhaps irreparably, but Americans are unable to get past the normalization of the danger. They can't feel the threat and so are prone to believing it isn't real or as bad as made out to be. It makes them extremely vulnerable, and recent events have only worsened this phenomenon.
The danger is extreme now, with only the flailing Democrats in any position to stop it. But that creeping sense of inevitability is part of the problem: soon enough regular people give in and those who want to seize/abuse power simply do.

I guess a moment like this really shows a lot about what people's priorities are. Trump ushering in possibly the most dangerous dictatorship in the history of the world? Barely concerning. Some YouTuber using capital letters in the title of his video? OMG now that's the REAL OUTRAGE!!!
Social media is what it is. You can use click-baity titles or you can have almost no views. That's just the way it is, and you can thank human nature for that. People click on provocative titles and ignore calm ones. I didn't make the rules, and neither did these content creators. If you're going to scoff at the video and attack someone's credibility because you don't like the video title................ I don't even know what to say to that.

I wouldn't take it too seriously. I'm the same way; those types of titles are an instant pass. And yes, I do think less of the source for resorting to them. Plenty of quality sources and content makers don't use them. And sure, maybe it's because they don't have to, but it's a little too much of an appeal to monetization for my taste.
Between two videos I'll click on the one that isn't sensationalized for attention.

Touché, I'll take this into account before sharing stuff here going forward.
This is why the U.S. and the rest of the world are in serious trouble. These are the kinds of morons we're counting on to save democracy? Yikes.
Also, how the f*** can anyone be undecided at this point? You still don't have enough information about Trump after 8 years to make an informed decision? Jesus christ.

Unfortunately there are a lot of them. The New York Times has been following a group of undecided voters and getting their impressions of various parts of the campaign. One of the participants is a 20-year old trans man in Arizona who uses they/them pronouns and whose biggest issue is fear of losing access to healthcare under Trump. As of now, they're still undecided.
I mean, maybe they're just ****ing with the NYT or maybe the NYT is being disingenuous in their characterization of this person, but if not, it's insane.
