Do you mean as a charitable stop-gap between jobs? Otherwise that seems like a MASSIVE step back from his level of experience, and I expect he will be back as an NHL assistant or in the AHL before too long.

Stupid that Signalet was retained as goalie coach.
Biggest reasons over last couple of years for underachievement is from the goaltenders.
This year the young goaltenders were not used properly, and Smith was not brought back from injury properly. Those are goalie coach decisions and he was terrible with how they were handled.

I mean really, everyone knows who's resume this is, and this should be the first guy offered the vacant coaching job.

Whether he takes the job or not I dunno, but he should be the first guy offered.

Which was the move that should have been made the last time around.

A GM isn't going to survive coach #3 with only 2 playoff appearances for very long. The clock is now ticking for things to drastically change results wise or BT will be the next one to face the music.

Yeah , Gully's a great human being but that's not currency in a results driven business. Nice guys traditionally finish last.

Honestly, these players need a coach who can better keep a finger on the pulse of the team. I wish Gully had the skill that Hartley had when he just knew where to mix it up and just blow a game up and buy his team some headspace. Just don't think gully ever had that knack to read his team.

If he wants the best chance then he'd do well to reel in a big fish with a different approach to the game. That way he can cover all the bases and have reason to defend himself if he later comes into some scrutiny. A repeat of the Gulutzan, under the radar approach is more sure to draw him into the line of fire. I'd consider Peters that kind of move and so would most considering his track record. Not to say he's the wrong choice. There's just certainly much more risk there if it doesn't go well.

That should be the first offer but my guess is AV is holding out to see what happens in Anaheim or Washington.

Personally my gut feeling is he ends up with the Capitals.

Also he has that $8M over 2 years left on his contract with the Rangers - do you see the Flames offering a 3 year contract for at least $4M per year to AV...I don't.

I think if they fired Dave Cameron in December GG is still coaching here. Just baffling they refused to make the change that was necessary. BT should have to answer for that.

Sure, but coaching in the NHL is a privilege and the guy still hasn't won the cup despite getting very very close. I think he will look at our young roster and jump at the opportunity.

Are you sure about that?

I personally thought that Rittich played extremely well up until Mike Smith was injured, and then he and Gillies understandably struggled with the pressure and timing. I agree that Smith returned from injury too early, but I don't see how that decision falls on Sigalet.

Also, I must say, anyone who has a history with liking players like Brouwer (character guys who can’t play hockey, been in the league forever) should not be considered. The last thing we need

I doubt that would be the case. Hockey's been a huge part of AV's life, I don't know if he would just be willing to step aside and sip drinks on a beach just yet.

Not sure I agree with any of that. I think the young goalies were used just fine. Smith was 100% healthy when he came back, he said that after the season ended. He said his mental game was a bit off but Sigalet doesn't control the neurons in Smith's brain.

As fans we really don't have enough information to properly judge Sigalet. That stuff is too far behind the scenes.

I've advocated for Glen Gulutzan to be fired for some time.

I would like to say that he is a honest, intelligent man, and I think honorable and loyal to his players to a fault. If anything he invested too much into his systems and his guys (players and assistant coaches both) because of his loyalty.

At the end of the day, he's always struck me as classy and smart, and I wish him the best of luck for his future.
