Plus he's a LW, which is where we're deep. I guess you take the BPA when it's clear; I've seen nothing to indicate that Tkachuk is unquestionably a step above others in the consensus (not to be confused with unanimous) top-7.
I'd like
1-3: Matthews/Finns
4: Chychrun
5: Dubois (hopefully he can play C if he's Benn-like as advertised)
6: Nylander
7: Tkachuk
8: Juolevi/Yost/McLeod (can't decide, and maybe the Flames won't have to).

Tyson Jost has fallen down the rankings a bit as of late. He will likely be a mid 1st in the 12-18 range. He doesn't have the skill level to compensate for his size.

http://ohlprospects.blogspot.ca/2016...-2016.html?m=1

Scouts and OHL media on Tkachuk

"Like his attitude and work ethic to go along with excellent on ice awareness and small space skills. Still growing, getting stronger. As good as anyone below hash marks offensively, where the NHL game is played." - Todd Warriner

"What impresses me most about Tkachuk is his ability to play any style the game commands. He can play finesse as demonstrated by his 70 points in 37 games. He can play the physical game as a 6’1”, 194 pound power forward. He can think the game at an elite level for his peer group. All this wrapped up with his impressive bloodlines make him a highly attractive and safe prospect." - Peter Harling

"High end hockey sense and positional play, plus the grit and sandpaper combined with offensive skill to boot make him a projected top line winger and Stanley Cup playoff warrior. Reminds me a bit of a young Adam Deadmarsh more so than his old man after seeing him play a bunch this season in London. A top-5 pick at this point." - Dan Stewart

"As good as Mitch Marner and Christian Dvorak are, Matthew Tkachuk might be this year’s Knight ‘MVP’. He has added another dimension to an already gifted team, and they’ve been unstoppable offensively as a result. Love the way he plays with both power and finesse. Not an extremely good skater, but he can handle the puck and score as well as he can pass. He has an edge to his game that makes him a complimentary fit with pretty much any type of centre. Tkachuk’s relentless on loose pucks and excellent at lifting them off defenders to create turnover. He’s going to excel in the NHL soon rather than later because of his maturity." - Scott Wheeler

"There's so much to like about Tkachuk because he's the one player that really stresses giving it 100 percent on every shift, and not just every game. I admire that in him. He really opened some eyes for the U.S. at the World Junior Championship, tying Auston Matthews in points for the team lead. He has good hands, a nice scoring touch and can also fight for pucks in the dirty areas of the ice." - Mike Morreale

"His dad was a great NHL player. Matthew could be more of an offensive force. Like his dad, Matthew has a "dirty" streak to him. As a scout said to me, with a smile on his face, "he's a nasty piece of work, eh?" Isn't afraid to get his nose dirty or go to the dirty areas. I never would have expected him to be number 1 on this list, but in my opinion his play has improved as the season has gone on, that he deserves it." - Tony Ambrogio

Post a bit more of my own thoughts on him in a sec, just watched almost a full game of his this afternoon.

If anybody wants to watch a lot of draft eligible kids in one game there's the U18 Worlds from last year between USA and Finland. Unfortunately in French for a lot of the 1st but switches back to English after that.

19 - Matthews
7 - Tkacuk
25 - McAvoy
26 - Keller
21 - Puljujarvi
27 - Laine

You can really see Tkachuk's game in this game. Always winning board battles, always looking for dangerous cross crease passes, drives the net, protects the puck well with his body and wide stance. He's a well rounded powerforward. High compete level, excellent vision, good hands in tight. He plays the game properly and plays a style that is highly successful in the NHL.

He's not the flashiest guy but he'll make any line better and would be an amazing power forward to pair with Bennett or Monahan. He'd be a great fit for the Flames.

I can't wait until draft day. Then we can start tracking the 2017 draft. There are a few prospects I'm fairly excited about.

Haven't heard anything about the 2017 draft yet TBH. Is there a consensus #1 at this point?

I don't want to derail this thread, but it looks like Nolan Patrick is ranked #1 right now.

I'm pretty sure you can already preorder an oilers Patrick jersey already. He'll fix the oilers for sure!

Wow, Nolan Patrick is already 6'3 with more than 100 points. Not bad for someone due to be drafted in 2017. Except his birthday is September 19, which makes him one of the oldest players in his draft.

Looks like he'll be as NHL ready as one could get.
After reading that article, 2017 is actually looking like a pretty decent draft.

You can see him maturing in front of your eyes as you scroll up on his twitter page. That's what I call prospect development!

Yeah not too shocking. Just ran across some of it that someone dug up, he should probably just delete his old tweets. Anyways back on topic.

How did Nylander and McLeod look tonight? Chychrun had 2 goals a game ago I believe.

After the OTL to LA, Flames have clinched a top 9 pick.

Highest we can finish in the standings is 25th overall.

There are a couple big, athletic goalies out of the States ala Jon Gillies, including Keith Primeau's son Cayden who's putting up a 0.951s% and 1.86 GAA in 21gp.

I honestly think Tomothy Liljegren can push to challenge for 1st overall.

Michael Rasmussen is another guy to keep your eye on. Big 6'5 Center with Tri-City. Has good foot speed and seems pretty smart. Solid 2 way player with room for offensive growth.

Getting back on topic... Uhhhh... So.... 9th overall or better. Yeah.
