They should be good for a few more seasons, but I think their window is now and the clock is ticking.
I team like that might be willing to over pay for a full year rental like Lindholm who has a below market cap hit. It will allow them to load up.
I wonder what we would have to add to get Kakko and Laf with Lindholm being the key player going back the other way.

An unfathomable amount.
Maaaaaybe Laf’s playoff performance could convince them to make a short sighted trade…but even at 50% retained, I don’t think Lindholm gets you Laf.

Averaging about .5ppg while playing 14 minutes a night down the depth chart. l for the most part while playing for a recently fired coach that approaches the game in the same way Sutter does.
I think you’re vastly overrating one year of Elias Lindholm. If Laf were on the table, it should be an automatic.

While I think many here over estimate Lindholm’s trade
value, a 50% Lindholm is certainly worth quite a bit more than Lefreniere.
In fact, I wouldn’t want that to me the major piece coming back.

If Lindholm truly isn’t going to re-sign here, you couldn’t do much better than that! Huby might be good for him.
I still like Kakko better.

Like what?
Timo Meier (an RFA) more or less returned:
- 1st round pick in ‘23 (late pick)
- Mukhamadullin (late former 1st)
- Okhotiuk (former 2nd)
- 2nd round in ‘24 (could have been a 1st)
That’s just volume, which isn’t a bad way to go about it when futures are involved but if the Flames are targeting a “now” player that is young, Laf would be the pinnacle and in my eyes worth a good deal more than the quantity-focused return that San Jose received.
…I also just don’t see NYR being short sighted enough to make Laf available.

He is not averaging .5ppg, he had 39 points last year. He started the 1st quarter of the year with Trochek and Panarin but then was dropped to a line with Kakko and Chytil. Saw 2nd line PP time. The scary thing about AL is he hasn't progressed nearly at the pace he was projected to. Combine that with the fact he is a LW which we don't really need at the expense of our 1st line C and it's a pass for me. I just don't see a high end offensive talent there.

Meier is an established elite goal scorer, you know what you are getting. He got a pile of magic beans and his value is definitely more than AL.

I don’t think they have any choice, due to cap issues.
Lefreniere needs a raise, so does Kakko I believe. Plus Miller needs a big one. They don’t want to trade Kakko.
So I think Lefreniere is available. I don’t think his value is as high as you think, but that ‘s just a difference of opinion.

He was comparing Meier to Lindholm I believe.

I think you're on crack on this one - Lafreniere is not worth Lindholm, never mind Lindholm at 50% retained.

New Jersey took the gamble on the trade without the assurance Meier would sign. Laf is in Yakupov territory and the Rangers are in a window with Panarin. I would be whelmed if Laf was the return for Lindholm. Remove the fact the he was picked first overall and he'd be a toss in a lot of trades. I don't think the Rangers will trade him though.

Is Lafrenière not the guy that's a below average skater and they are wondering if his game is ever going to transition properly to the NHL? Or am I thinking of someone else....

It’s incredible to me how gross some of these trade proposals are for Lindholm. He is impressively underrated here by some.

I just read that Lucic wants to go to Toronto if possible. Good friends with Giordano/Muzzin and likes Treliving.

Where is this talk of Flames and Lafreniere come from? Personally I really have this guy as a 2nd liner at best at this point. He doesn't particularly have a standout skill, is slower than average and not as quick. Really not sure what the appeal is when the cat has been out of the bag for awhile. He simply hasn't developed and his upside is limited. I just don't want because you know the name will have to come at a premium when he literally should be valued at a 2nd rounder.

Laf is slow, but his numbers are progressing slowly but surely. Didn’t do squat in the playoffs, though. Not sure he’s ever going to be a true first-liner.
