I downgraded the beta back to 4.1. I'll upgrade my iPad again when Airplay supports video. I don't really like to use beta's on my phone, but don't mind on the iPad.

Oh nice. Did you do the downgrade in Xcode, or did you have to follow one of those funky "how to downgrade you firmware" guides I see on websites?

Haha yea, they make downgrading quick and painless (let alone make downgrading possible ). Got em saved for my iPhone 4 from 4.0 and my iPad from 3.2 onwards, so any firmware works for me. Also got my stock AppleTV SHSH saved, as the real jailbreak for it (With afc2 and SSH support) will be released sunday =) (Mac only)

new appletv.
Plug in a microUSB cable and hook it up to your computer. iTunes recognizes it as a device, open TinyUmbrella and you can save your SHSH with it.

Nice. They are quite the small devices.
With MKVTools x264 converting is a thing of the past since all the MKV's need are remuxing to mp4, not re-encoding.

Yeah, I saw your post in the ATV thread. I have a whole season of The West Wing sitting on my hard drive. I'm waiting till after my finals next week, so I can test the MKVTools + iFlicks thing.

Next iFlicks beta should incorporate the remux-ing and make MKVtools unnecessary (Dev responded to my email ) Hopefully should see a beta release this weekend

If it works as good as it sounds, I'll phone Stockholm and nominate a new Nobel laureate.

Second, I believe its using the Quicktime encoding engine, so the output quality is going to be lower than the x264 engine used by Handbrake.
So you have to decide if the mux and tagging is worth more than video quality. And if paying for something that simply wraps existing Quicktime functionality is worth more than Handbrake, which has higher quality output and is free.

I believe when you have a x264 (h264) mkv, and it remux's it there is no quality loss? As it does not require to re-encode it. AppleTV is capable of playing these as well as the AC3 audio.
But for encoding, yea, Handbrake has higher quality since it doesn''t use the QT engine. But everything is HD these days, so I don't re-encode anything.
