Bautista hits number 47 today, putting him in to a tie with George Bell for the franchise record.
16 more games, the record should be all his by the end, as well as the 50 HR mark. What a season.

Great stuff but control was off. Pitch from behind in the count too often. Defense bailed him out a couple of times.
6 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 SO, 5 BB

11-9 win over the Red Sox.
Hopefully the Blue Jays finish over 500 this year.

According to Bob Elliot, the Jays have fired Vegas manager Dan Rohn after 1 year as well as AAA pitching coach Dave LaRoche.

Perhaps Edmonton wants to hire their own manager next year?

Bautista's previous high in HRs was 15? What a year! Now completely different topic, where is Brady Andersen?

I would credit Bautista's success compared to past years to a few things.
A) Regular play - he never really had any.
B) Blue Jays hitting instructors have tweaked something in his stance and swing that is obviously working.
C) Situational hitting - in Pittsburgh he was an infielder and leading off. He was asked to hit for average, move people from base to base etc.... In Toronto there is no situational hitting. If you're hitting 3rd in the lineup and free to take home run swings in 600 AB you're probably going to hit at least 30. 50 is a peak season. Expect 30-40 next season.

And people aren't realizing that this actually started at the end of last season, he changed something in September. He hit 10 of his 13 home runs last year in September and October.

Congrats to Jose Bautista! Huge accomplishment...never saw this coming. Makes it even better that it was so unexpected.

Read the first couple pages of this thread. I think Wilhelm's saying how Bautista is having a good spring maybe he'll keep it up. Everyone else laughs...He did keep it up. I can't imagine there was anywhere who had Bautista on a prop bet for leading the majors in home runs. Not since Cecil Fielder has there been a guy who'd never hit 20 home runs suddenly hit 50.

True, though Bautista's pace in both 2008 and 2009 would have seen him top 20 if he had 600PAs. Ditto Fielder. He had 14HR in less than 200PAs in 1987 - which, of course, means that Fielder was on a 42HR pace that year over 600PAs.
Bautista = Brady Anderson until he proves otherwise, really.
