FWIW I was just listening to Friedman and he said in the 9ish range for Nylander.

Well nobody in their right mind is going to give a guy 10.5 a year that hasn't seen them play for their team. Obviously Nylander will get less on the open market also.

One guy did, and he also happens to be in the GM seat right now.

Regardless of their industry, more people would be happier if they took the line of “#### you, pay me” with their employer.

If Backlund wants out so bad, then why is the flames Instagram posting pictures of him and his wife in Nashville, where the brass currently is, getting fitted for cowboy boots?

He doesn't want out. He wants the Flames to pay him so he can join the overpaid 35-plus crowd.

One thing to remember is that second contracts have become more expensive too and are not the same bargains they once were. If the player hits you're pretty much 8 years at a high salary. If not it's a series of shorter term deals with the potential to need future raises when the player does. So a pending RFA for UFA isn't the same future cost difference it once was. But it is a different risk dynamic.

I dont think the Flames have bad blood with him either, just out of respect for the player whos still contractually signed and representing the Flames at the awards, it makes sense for them to assume he's still a Flame until traded.

He’s there for the NHL awards. It’s just content for social media.

It’s not like Conroy is calling up the marketing department “hey, I might be trading Backlund so don’t film any content with him at the NHL awards”.

If Washington is in on Hanifin I wonder if they told the Flames to wait and see if the players they're interested in are gone or not at the draft. That 8th pick would be amazing.

Remember I don't think they WANT to trade him. Back's has to accept what's going on here.

I think Backlund has plenty of millage left on those trunks.
