IMO the reason Sutter hasn't been available for interviews as that they know what type of questions will be asked and they don't want Darryl answering them in front of the media to make the situation look even more dysfunctional.
Could be, but for the love of god could you please get that smiling billionaire out of your avatar. Triggered....

Sutter is still under contract. The decision of whether to keep him is the job of the new GM. Why pay to buy out his contract if the new GM hasn't decided yet if that is what they want to do? The Flames just need to make it clear that the new GM has full power to hire and fire coaching staff as they see fit, providing that they show some degree of responsibility in their spending (keeping in mind that the extension of Sutter's contract was Treliving's mistake). If the Flames don't offer this degree of autonomy to the incoming GM, the quality of the candidates who would consider the job will be severely restricted.

Because Edwards can tell Sutter that the new GM had to have the call on all the roster and coaching staff and it doesn't sour things between them. It should also be the next GM's choice on if he wants him to be his coach or not. Given the way things played out this year I can't see any way he isn't let go.

With several of key players going into their UFA season, that seems like a really risky move.

Only reason he is back, owner don't want to fire him and pay another coach.

How so? They can trade them until end of February 2024. Or they can fire him at the beginning of the year. That’s certainly the MO of a lot of teams. Hell, it’s how Sutter was first hired here.

EDIT: I suspect they aren’t going to be as convicted that this year’s all on Sutter.

It's 8M, that is peanuts compared to having your players not happy that make more money as well as compromising your opportunity to win.

If the Wranglers go deep and the city gets behind them as expected they might make Sutters 8m and break even

Seems like he will be back unfortunately.

The owner runs this city sticks it to us in every way tax evading company steals an arena and gives us a crappy coach who is on his second path of destruction.

Watching the playoffs it’s so apparent how slow the Flames are.

They look out of shape compared to the playoff teams.

Calgary is a major city, I would be shocked if you saw more than 4k in the Dome at ANY point during a Wranglers run.

Apparently Dreger said multiple players aren't returning if Sutter stays.

I'd venture a strong guess that agents are leaking that info to Dreger in hopes that Sutter is fired, but I'd be shocked if players under active contract don't show up for training camp.

Right now you can’t buy two tickets together, although I’m not sure how many tickets are currently for sale. But since there are currently singles available as far up as row 10 in the second level, they have sold a lot of tickets.

The Gio thing is unfair. EVERY team lost a player in expansion.
And Gio was the right one to expose.
I get it - he should have traded him such that didn't lose him for nothing. But then they would have lost a different player, like Kylington.

And if they don’t change their heading immediately there will be a bunch of names to add to that list next year. Or perhaps they’ll grossly overpay aging players in an effort to avoid the stigma attached to being that franchise. Let that marinate.

Sutter knows the league and gets effort from everyone on board, but committing to his “present is everything” approach results in a scorched earth landscape fairly quickly. He’s finishing his business and it’s beginning to look like a masterpiece.

Even so it's not ideal for a group of players to not be on board with the head coach as it's hard to imagine a successful season being born of that as if anything they could play to get him fired.
