I have seen multiple mock drafts having Flames selecting Cristall and tbh it makes no sense, I will be pissed if we pick him with our only 1st rounder.

It's a massive homerun swing. I love the skill and talent, don't love the amount of work remaining to get up to NHL levels of skating.
Make no mistake, he's good. Really good. Really really good. But there higher floor players available at that pick.
It'll be interesting to see Connie's first ever pick this year. Is he gonna be a cowboy or sort of hedge his bets like he did with the coaching hire

Updated Upside Hockey profiles page yet again - I've really lost count now lol, but must be near 160 or perhaps more now of Sandman's wonderful work!
Again, they're in order of our Lottery Edition rankings. I've since published E-Mac's Final Rankings, so some discrepancies. Not sure I'll have time to update the order of the profiles, but may give it a go.

Yeah, I think there is a chance that his KHL team can be enticed with money. You just have to put the bribes into the right hands. I am not sure what the NHL thinks of that sort of thing, but I don't see why they would care.

Cool survey on The Athletic. They asked draft prospects who they thought the most talented non-teammate they played against was excluding Bedard. Not a perfect survey....skewed depending on where the 61 kids interviewed came from (e.g. not many played against Reinbacher i assume). Interesting comment and results about Barlow.
Quote:
Ethan Gauthier called Zach Benson “the best player I’ve played on a line with.” ....Multiple players credited Colby Barlow for how hard he is to stop. One said they told an NHL club in an interview that they’d take Brayden Yager with them to the NHL if they could pick. Only nine of the 60 votes went to defencemen because of the nature of the question, and five of those were for Axel Sandin Pellikka, who was most popular among U.S. NTDP players in what I thought was a notable sign of respect.
Here was the final tally, ranked by most common (number of responses in parentheses).
1. Will Smith (8)
2. Zach Benson (7)
3. Colby Barlow (6)
T4. Calum Ritchie, Axel Sandin Pellikka (5)
T6. Leo Carlsson, Andrew Cristall, Dalibor Dvorsky, Otto Stenberg (3)
T10. Adam Fantilli, Jayden Perron, Brayden Yager, Etienne Morin (2)
T14. Eduard Sale, Quentin Musty, Luca Cagnoni, Luca Pinelli, Gracyn Sawchyn, Ryan Leonard, Nick Lardis, David Reinbacher, Riley Heidt (1)

I would really like Axel Sandin if he’s available.

Barlow looks like a 27 year old man. Do you think it could be a size/maturity advantage now that is propping him up?

Looking at Pronman's mock ..
On the board when Calgary selects;
Moore, ASP, Barlow, Sale, Yager, Cristall, Musty
On the board when Calgary comes up at 48?
28 Riley Heidt
35 Jayden Perron
40 Nick Lardis
41 Koehn Ziemmer
42 Willian Whitelaw
43 Gracyn Sawchyn
44 Brad Gardiner
49 Trey Augustine
Have seen some "riser" comments on Perron, Lardi and Sawchyn

If Heidt is up when the Flames pick at 48th I will be shocked.

Saw a prospect review video where Perron’s team played against Will Smith/Gabriel Perreault/Oliver Moore… Perron really stood out in that game. He was dominant. His line went up against Smith’s line and looked just as good. Was only one game but I was impressed by his speed and skill. Would love for the flames to grab him in the second round or with a late first if they acquire one.

I’d be happy with either of these players at 16.

I view Perron and Sawchyn as two guys that appear much higher on some lists than they will go in the NHL.
Perron is very small, and I don't think he's got the skill to product at that size at the NHL level. He's the kind of guy I think you take in the 4th or beyond, but not in the first two rounds.
Sawchyn also isn't huge and his skating is apparently quite average.
So same thing here - not skilled enough to overcome his other weaknesses.
I think both will go later in the draft, and will be two players that fans are clamoring for as they do.

No, he is ranked high because he probably has the second best shot in the draft. Maturity doesn’t really matter in this case
