I'm not sold on Svechkov but the shade Neo is throwing on him is pretty unwarranted.
Natural defensive centers are good. And some people who've been tracking him seem to think there's a lot of untapped offense in there. Not sure I see goalscorer but playmaker?? Sure. A playmaking center who happens to be better defensively? I wouldn't be upset if they picked that.
Honestly at this point I'd probably prefer Svechkov over Sillinger.

Some say it is, but the teams that rank him in the first round will see the upside. He’s put up good numbers in Russia, and he certainly didn’t look like a player woth limited offense in the U-18s.

I’m not anti defensive forwards*, there are just better ways to acquire them than with an 11th overall pick
And again he plays wing more often than center already so he is likely to end up there IF he makes the NHL

Everything I read says center. Where'd you come up with winger?
U18, center. Every highlight I've seen, center. Most scouting reports, center. So why are you right and everyone else wrong?

I like svechkov but need to reaffirm that Sillinger has a legit shot at being the best forward in this draft. Don't understand your disdain. I maintain that you've not watched this year's highlights and seen his obvious skating improvements.

I’m sure Svechkov will play C, and the reason he’s climbed the draft charts is BECAUSE of his potential offensive upside. Like I said, he put up great numbers in Russia, and he was money at the U-18s.

Why the hell did you quote me? I didn't even say anything about Sillingers skating. He's lower on my preference list for many reasons. And really, I disagree that Sillinger has any more of a legit shot at being this drafts best forward than 6 or 7 others. Including Svechkov. If Sillinger was such a sure thing he'd be consistently ranked higher than the Likes of Eklund, Beniers, Johnson or Guenther or even Lucius or Lysell or even Coronoto.
He's your favorite and thats fine. I personally will be pretty happy with almost any of the forwards. I've said it a lot. Sillinger just isn't as high on my list.

THN has Svechkov ranked #12, and they say his ceiling is Mika Zibanejad, but he might be best suited for middle-6 duties.
The Draft Analyst has him ranked between 11-21, and says he could be a top-line, multi-situational Center in the mold of Couturier or Bergeron.
......just sayin'.

I think the point that Neo took offense to, was the idea that Svenchkov's "floor" is Backlund. That is ridiculous as floor means the lowest he will reasonably achieve. Backlund has been an full time NHLer for more than a decade, so much closer to the ceiling I would think.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Some RISERS and FALLERS on our list. Basically looked at our preliminary ranking versus our final ranking to check out some of the biggest swings.
Standard disclaimer: Weird year and trying circumstances for a lot of these prospects.

It's embarrassing how high I am on Ayrton Martino. I don't even want to say where I have him ranked, for credibility's sake.
Elite speed, awareness, IQ and competitive drive. A ton of recent progression. Fantastic numbers.
Justifiably a late riser.
By the way, great article, FCAV.

I really really want Sillinger. I will be very unhappy if he is not a Flame.

There are definitely some guys pegged to go late first, or in the second round that I like just as much, if not more, than some of the prospects in the range of our first-rounder-Martino is amongst them.

You are setting yourself up for disappointment. It's very possible he's picked before the Flames pick and just as possible they like another player better. So many variables that if you get fixated on one guy you end up having a bummer of an evening. If they pick a different player you just have to have faith in the scouts. I'm hoping for Sillinger but if they take Lucius or another player in the consensus top 20 you just have to have patience. If a guy like Kent Johnson slips to 12 would you be disappointed they take him over Sillinger? The only way I would be disappointed is if they reach and pick a player that's not a consensus top 20 player as then you are hoping the Flames scouts know better than everyone else which brings higher odds of failure.

Pretty sure Treliving is going to trade this pick if he can.
He needs to save his job. He won’t be around when the pick is ready for the NHL, whoever it is.

I only see him trading this pick in a package for Eichel. Otherwise I don't see it.

Yes but he will try. Hopefully it’s not stupid like a bottom pairing dman aka Hamonic
