That was a better performance than the Nadal match.
Tsitsipas was absolutely on fire, wasn't giving anything away and Denis just hung in there and battled it out with him. Two great players actually playing good tennis right to the end, and Denis played a better tie break and hit a couple of huge shots to win it. Could have gone either way. Great, great tennis.

Yup, in the battle of one-handed backhands, it was the Shapo forehand that had the telling blow for much of the match (including that laser down the line to give Denis the mini-break at 5-3 in set 3). Both guys put on a serving clinic last night, Shapo was around 80% in the second set and at 75% or thereabouts for the 3rd set, Tsitsipas likewise serving up a storm. No negative tennis last night, both guys were on the front foot.
Edit: The forehand down the line in the 3rd set tie-breaker to make it 5-3 Shapo.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Shapo laying off shots he would normally try to absolutely hammer. He allowed the rally to develop last night and picked his spots well instead of trying to force winners ad nausea. Tactically, this is how he can get himself into the top 10 this season. Very impressive match.

Some fancy company for Felix (and you can add Denis to the list as a 19 year old)

There's obviously still a long way to go, but I caught myself gushing over a potential Shapo/Felix showdown in the finals on Sunday.....

Denis along with partner Rohan Bopanna are scheduled to play doubles in the Miami quarter-finals against the Bryan brothers today at 4 pm Eastern. Will he play? Should he play?
Edit: Isner might pull double duty today, he's slated to play singles first and doubles following his singles match today.

For the upcoming QF tomorrow, Denis and BigFoe have split their previous 2 matches, with Denis winning the last at Cincy in 2018 by a score of 7-6, 3-6, 7-5.
This was also another one that was nearly split down the middle in points won with Denis taking 102 of 201 total points. Should be another drama filled match!

He should play. Doubles takes maybe an hour and a half and it's like practice anyways.

i'm just looking ahead and Milos is not entered in any tournaments. I fear his back is acting up again or he's just gonna skip clay.

Ambitious schedules for FAA and Shapo. I think it's safe to assume Canada will have 3 seeded players in the next major if the last week or two is any indication.
As for Milos, I know he's done this in the past where he doesn't set his schedule for large portions of the season. I haven't heard any news regarding injuries at all so I'm sure we'll see him play at least 2-3 clay events leading up to the French Open. A guy like him can't really afford to be letting points drop or find himself out of match shape going into the grass season by skipping that much of the year.
