Something wrong with Smid and Bennett being the same.. That will change pretty fast.

Yeah I expect Bennett to get a TOTW card and be boosted up to at least 85 or 86 by the time TOTY comes out.
Bennett is actually 81 in the regular mode.

Thought this didn't need it's own thread but,
Avs re-sign Freddie Hamilton to a one year 2-way contract worth $688,000

Chara is apparently going to be out longer than initially expected with an 'undisclosed injury' per TSN. That means the Bruins start the year without: Hamilton, Chara, and Sidenberg. Yikes, even if two of those are depreciating assets, that's an awful lot of talent to be missing.
Has the trade moved back away from the absolute steal for the Flames that it looked like?
Hamilton has moved into the #5 D slot in Calgary and it is not like Wideman and Russell are playing so well that Hamilton has no opportunity to play his way into the top 4.
It is a similar role that his old team mate Matt Bartkowski is filling with the Canucks. In 2013-14 both Hamilton and Bartkowski play 64 games with the Bruins, each had just over 19 minutes a game and both ended up +22. Hamilton had a great 2014-15 and Bartkowski did not.
Bartkowski was signed by the Canucks to a 1 year 1.75 M deal as a UFA.
On the going out side of the trade :
The Flames gave up Barzal or Connor plus 2nds for Hamilton.
Even using Boston's picks Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson is a ppg Freshman at Boston U and Jeremy Lauzon who is the top scoring d-man in the Q and is +17 (#5 in the league).
As both the Flames and the Bruins are in re-build mode which team helped the rebuild more?
The Bruins got 9 years of low contract ELC and the Flames are paying Hamilton to be a top 2 d-man.
What will the trade look like in 2 years?
Depends on if Hamilton (Dougie) reaches his potential combined with how the picks pan out for the Bruins notwithstanding any career-limiting injuries, coaching changes, further trades, contraction, expansion, realignments, or unknown forces.
Yeesh.

I would be actually so happy if people stopped directly quoting ricardo when replying to him. The many people who do have him on ignore can go on pretending he doesn't exist. Everyone stays happy!

How the hell is Hamilton our #5?? He's been our second best defenseman for a few games and before long Brodie and Hamilton will be our top pairing. I think your hate for Frolik is spilling over to the wrong guys...

Dougie has been a bust so far but the team has been brutal. I think they should play Brodie with Dougie for an extended look to see how they play together.
Good thing Dougie signed a 6 year contract and not a 20 game one. It is frustrating how people evaluate players off such a small sample size and think it is going to be how it is moving forward. Dougie scored 42pts playing tough minutes last year he has the ability to be a top Dman in the league. New team, new contract, new conference is a lot of change. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt because he is only 22 and the whole team outside of Gaudreau, Bennett, Brodie has sucked

Hmmm... Never thought about it from that perspective. Don't you think this place is more entertaining with him in it?

Maybe you should have posted this idea 2 weeks ago. Hamilton has been improving his play as he becomes more comfortable in Calgary's system. The past week he has been Calgary's 2nd best defenseman behind Brodie.
Really though, 17 games into the season is the perfect time to say a trade involving young players who will/should be around for many years is the best time to evaluate the trade.
I still say the Flames outright robbed the Bruins on this trade, but I have patience.
If Hamilton was a 32 year old star defenceman and the Flames picked him up at the deadline... then I'd be up in arms about the trade too.
