I hope that Vancouver signs Lucic to a big dollar, long term UFA contract at the end of this season.
That would definitely prolong the time before they actually begin their much needed rebuild.
They would continue with their "retool on the fly", which as the Flames have found out in the past, just does not work.

That would be very bad for LA, a 1st for one year of Lucic after trading a 1st and Roland McKeown for a couple game of Sekera.
Williams, Jones Stoll, Regehr maybe Voynov gone. Even Richards was still a serviceable player he just counted way too much against the cap to keep in the NHL.
This is going to be a very different Kings team from last year. They're going to to need young guys like Toffoli, Pearson, Nick Shore to keep progressing and for some of their prospects to step up and make an impact.
Both Kopitar and Lucic leaving as UFAs would be an outright disaster, but if they're out of the playoff picture come deadline time they could take home quite a haul trading them if they seem unlikely to sign. I do think Kopitar eventually re-signs though.

Let's say for conversation sake that LA does in fact become basement dwellers in a couple years.
Do you think we see the trades of Kopitar (28) Doughty (25) Quick (29) Carter (30) Brown (30)?

Certainly not Doughty, he's still young enough that he could have 10+ years in him.

Kings are still a pretty stacked team. Probably fire Sutter before blowing the team up. Quick, Doughty, Kopitar, Carter will still be top players for a while. Toffoli and Pearson still have room to improve. Muzzling and Martinez are decent defenders as well. Brown is pretty much done though. I don't see how they can keep Kopitar and Lucic though. They gave up a ton to get Lucic which seems like a bizarre move if he is one and done in LA. I guess if the window is open the. You have to try and win as many cups as you can in that timeframe.

I agree with all those points.
One player i haven't seen anyone mention is Colin Miller, Whom they traded for Lucic.
Guy was an absolute stud in the AHL last year as a sophomore (52 points in 70 games). I watched him a couple times and was beyond impressed. At the all-star skills competition he had the hardest shot and was also the fastest skater (Poirer was 2nd).
I was really pulling for the Flames to get him after Friedman said in one of his 30 thoughts blogs both him and Derek Forbort were generating a ton of interest on the trade block.
Anyways my point being imo he also qualifies as a key departure and maybe we can swindle another good young defenceman from Sweeney in the future!

Agreed they're going to be different, and not as strong. Their defense is looking very suspect. They were already playing Doughty 30 minutes a night last year and that was with Regehr in the lineup, who took away minutes from the real scrubs in the system. Now they are relying on Erhoff to be healthy in his place, and hopefully good. After that they are playing Greene/Martinez. Quick looks very beatable without the amazing defense of 2 years prior.
A lot of those forwards just seem to be burning out as well. Brown's contract is really bad. You go down their depth chart and it's a lot of plugs. Give Sutter credit for getting success out of a group built like it's still 2004 but I think the group is out of gas.

It's Eklund but the idea intrigues me greatly.
Brock Nelson hasn't signed yet as an RFA and the Flames Sharks and Leafs are interested in him.
If at all true Brock Nelson would be a fantastic fit at LW.

I agree. The more size we have (in our conference) the better.

I think it a deal were to be made for Nelson, the flames would trade on of our D for him. Be great if we could get him on a reasonable deal too

A pending UFA for a big 23 year old that can score 20 goals is a bad deal? Sure it probably hurts you right now, but great long term.

I wouldn't do hudler for Nelson because if we were to trade hudler at the deadline I think you'd get more than that. We should focus on keeping huds anyway.
Come on BT, work more magic and give spare parts for Nelson!

Yeah, no way you trade Hudler for him.
But I would be willing to move maybe something like Russell and Granlund?

It's always good to have depth but where does Brock Nelson fit in on our depth chart and glut of forwards?
Gaudreau/ Monahan/ Hudler
Raymond/ Backlund/ Frolik
Bouma/ Bennet/ Jones
Ferland/ Stajan / Colbourne
Bollig / Jooris/ Shore
Porier/ Byron
I guess Raymond on LW is replaceable but we have a crap ton of players pushing for roster spots now.
And with that said, you gotta think a trade of sorts would come at the end of preseason. Maybe to clear cap for the future or to clear spots on the team vs losing players on waivers.
