There's lots of caveats here (which EV, how empty, which little generator), but this little one would put out 2.2KW for 3.1hrs on a full tank (3.6l). So 6.6KWh which would be about 35-40km for a model 3 on 3.6l of gas

It wasn't an argument, I posted a theoretical situation and Street Pharmacist answered with a great reply. You on the other hand answered it like a Bumface.

I read it as him saying the argument in the video is a dumb argument, which it is.

Stupid question, it doesn't seem super efficient at about 10-11 km/L, but what are the practicalities of doing something like this to "jump start" a Tesla that has run out of power and can't get to a plug or charger?

For about $1600.00 you can have this for emergency, probably slow as hell but so is walking 20 miles to a gas station, I'm they'll get cheaper soon.

The person in the video most definitely was posing the argument that electric vehicles are disadvantaged in a natural disaster, which is a dumb argument, and they were clearly speaking from a place of ideology instead of logic.

With more and more vehicles able to do power to load (ie, you can send the power in your batteries to other things), I see the future more like people will have an EV to EV cable and it'll be more like jumping a car with a dead battery

The only real inefficiency is time...presuming SP's numbers are correct, that's slightly better mileage than most minivans/bigger SUVs

I just want to put a generator strapped in the trunk with a cable running to the charge port and drive around like that and video the responses.

This guy did it. It wasn't all that successful.

Then there is this more basic setup:

You know when you really think about it an EV is much better suited for an apocalypse than gas, especially if its something cool like zombies. They are quiet, accelerate fast, any schmo can rig up some form of charging station using solar, wind, alternators etc, electricity doesn't go rotten like gas does, and the maintenance is practically nil.

Don't worry, you won't be able to find one here.

I was looking forward to the N Ioniq 5 but I dunno it feels hard to justify spending $80k on that car. I'd maybe want a Mach E GT or i4 though the Hyundai is probably a better car (we'll see how well it performs).

Things are increasing quickly. In June sales of EVs were up 38% from June last year and globally 1 in 5 light duty vehicles had a plug socket on it. That's pretty remarkable. While it may not be apparent in the highways of Alberta or even BC yet, EVs are continuing to increase quickly while sales of vehicles overall are diminishing

Have a friend that took her Model 3 to Kamloops/Sunpeaks from their home in North Van. She had two mountain bikes off the back. It took her an extra 45 minutes for charging and cost $35. They also own a Tacoma but wanted to try it with the Tesla.
