But only three of those guys have contracts beyond this year. They'll need to promote more youth and maybe sign an UFA or two... but the market is really thin behind Andersson.
Orlov-???
Dickinson-Mukhamadullin
Cagnoni-Iorio
Thompson
And then Orlov's contract expires and they must be hoping that Dickinson is ready for the top pair by 2027-28 but neither LD or RD look very strong behind Dickinson and Mukhamadullin and they really need to find a #1RD. Trying to draft one will take years and they arguably need to fill the spot right now.

I think penciling Mukhamadullin in as a top 4 guy is optimistic. Would definitely rather have Bahl than him and I am not sure Bahl is a true top 4 guy on a playoff team. Either way it will be interesting to see what they do. Expecting a 19 year old Dickinson to carry the mail anytime in the next 3 years is optimistic. Orlov is a pretty good number 4, maybe number 3 dman on a good team. And then they have the rest of their defence. Klingberg is having a heck of a contract year, maybe they back up the brinks truck for him to keep him around.

San Jose makes perfect sense both ways.
They need a top-pairing RD that isn't too old to help build that team. He fits that team like a glove right now, and he has been on their radar for a while now. I remember Oilfan bringing up his name in the off-season, and saying they would like to trade for him, but their priority was Ekblad if he became a UFA. So there seems to be a continuing interest there, rather than just seeing Andersson's recent rebound in form.
From Andersson's point of view, I am looking for a destination for 8 years, not 2 or 3. San Jose looks like it will be competitive for all of his eight seasons, right? Plus, good weather. Plus, it used to be a top 5 destination. I remember Regehr's story about being told he was going to Buffalo by Feaster, and he turned around and said: "What about the Sharks?".
Anaheim, Vegas, Florida and Dallas are the teams that I would prefer signing an 8 year deal with. Vegas and Florida may not afford me a full 8 years of competitiveness, but give me great shots at the cup in my first 4 years there, that's for sure. Anaheim and San Jose gives me 8 full seasons of being competitive, by my estimation. Maybe Chicago as well, but the weather is not there.
Easy to see why he turned down LA, so it shouldn't be weird that he is looking at San Jose. Two very different cities. I also see two very different directions in terms of trajectory. There is a good chance that Andersson may be the 2nd best player in LA in less than 3 years. What will that team be with the retirements of Doughty and Kopitar? Byfield I think will still grow closer to the player he was supposed to become - a bona fide #1 center. There will be no more superstars. I like Kempe, but I don't see him as a superstar. If I want to win. LA is near the bottom of the list, just above Edmonton.
I think San Jose is a great match. Harder to find a better match, actually. He will be the clear #1 RD, and San Jose will have a chance to win. I would have SJ at the top of my list if I was Rasmus.

I think it is a pretty safe expectation for Mukhamadullin. He is a 2020 1st round pick, 20th overall, drafted by the Devils and a key part of the Meier trade return.
From my reading over the summer it sounds like his progression has come along well and he was looking good last year in his 30 game rookie season. On a team that was -105, he was only -7 while playing 18 minutes per night average. That is pretty respectable considering how terrible their D group was. Considering all of that, I think 2nd pair RD is a safe expectation for him. However, expecting him to be 2nd pair next year is a bit aggressive... but that is how their contracts are currently structured.
Dickinson is going to be good. He has got the rest of this year and next year to show whether he is able to take over bigger roles faster, like a Hutson or Seider, or if he needs more time to develop.
Sharks fans also seemed to like Cagnoni and Thompson for 6/7 D last season but I expect that those guys are in the AHL because of the logjam of second/third pair NHL D that the Sharks created this season with 2 UFA signings and 2 waiver claims.
Extending Orlov and Klingberg might be the way to go for rounding out their top 4 but they definitely need help on D of the immediate sort.
In the system they do have some 2nd round picks on D.
Sahlin Wallenius (LD) - 53OA
Havelid (RD) - 45OA
Wang (LD) - 33OA
Going after Andersson is a big need for the Sharks. I really hope the Ducks also go for him and drive the price up.

Jeremy Tingly of nhltraderumors says watch out for the Leafs, Red Wings, and Stars as suitors for Andersson.
Eklund (I know, I know) says Andersson to Leafs (e4).

There was no world back then that their walk up crowd was 6500-7000 paying customers. Back in the day you could pick whatever seat you wanted to sit in at the game in the lower bowl, nobody was at the games. So you could spend 5 bucks for the ticket and then just sit in the most expensive seats in the Dome. Suspect the actual paid attendance was around 10,000 back in those days.

Apples and oranges, the NHL was a completely different business back then. The Flames became a feeder team for the league and our fans knew it. There was no rebuilding, just drafting players and then selling them in trades if they started to need decent contracts. We iced $20mil teams regularly in the late 90's/early 2000's, and slowly started to increase before the cap came in 2005/06.
Fun fact: the year we beat Detroit in round two of the '04 playoffs, the Flames were icing our largest team salary in years at $36.4mil, while Detroit had an astounding $78mil team.
Fun fact #2: The Minnesota Wild iced an $11mil team in their first season in 2000.

Brad wishes he had an e4 "tingley" sensation right about now, instead Matthew's is playing his way out of Canada's top hat.

Having more teams on the list of suitors is better. Most of those teams have been linked to Andersson before.
If I were to rank the list of teams that have been linked to Andersson over the last half year from best to worst based on the assets they could send back:
Sharks
Ducks
Mammoth
Red Wings
Stars
Bruins
Leafs
Flames - Extend Andersson
