This is so funny. I am a big mac user. My last job was for a global fintech. I used a mac and never had a problem. Now I work at a much more traditional place and use pc exclusively. I was actually looking forward to it to see what PCs did better than Mac. Almost a year in I am still waiting. As an end user, there is nothing in the PC evironment that Mac does not do better, other than interface with ancient legacy programs still used by the dinosaurs in the finance industry.

Isn't that pretty much mandatory for the use case though?

Of course. But it allows and enforces continuation of bad programs. I understand the risk analysis but dataphile SUCKS ASS.

haha, dataphile is pretty brutal, but that isn't even the worst. A lot of the ones the banks use are still on those old monochrome monitors I think! I have no idea how much money it would cost to essentially move all of that old junk to something even remotely up to date.

Conversely, I had been a PC user my entire life. I got an entry-level job for Marketing & Communications and the department exclusively used Macs. I was pretty interested to see all the hype for Macs when it came to design and marketing projects. Same as you, I was incredibly disappointed to find out that it was all a myth concocted by brand loyalists. It did all the same things, just in a different way that was inconvenient because I wasn't used to it.
And I think that's what it all boils down to: you like what you know and are used to. Apple products are confusing and frightening to the Android/PC user, and vice versa.

You are correct, to an extent. I think 'myth' is a bit much but generally agree. It's the little differences... I would kill for an effective trackpad with the ability to move between destops. I have not found an efficient way to do that on the pc. Searching folders on my machine in PC land is a nightmare (may be the network environment not the PC), Macs, way better.
There is also the fact that I bought my kids Mac airs in grade 7, I think, and she used it until university. Don't see that in many pcs.

Sure wish any of my company’s systems were affected today. I could have used a free day off.

Hearing reports of some businesses POS being down. This really does highlight something basic like being able to conduct business while technology has failed.
Always important to have a back up, manual system for payments. Old fashioned VISA/MC slips that can imprint the card number, have the client sign and manually key in later. IT and tech mishaps can cost your businesses thousands of dollars and it doesn't make logical sense to not have it.
Carry cash, emergencies happen and you need cash. People forget how vulnerable we are without an emergency $50 on hand. There is far too many people walking around without a wallet, their actual cards and rely on their phone for payment.

I remember last year when trying to cross the Confederation Bridge, the credit card systems were down, so they had to take an imprint with an old-fashioned machine and they told me the payment might not show up for a few days.

Things happen without a doubt. Cyber attacks, tech updates, cellular network outages, storms that knock out power and more. For a lot of small businesses, even so much as a dropped POS machine or a stuck button or a spilled drink on POS can result in significant losses.
Risk management and mitigation is always key no matter what. Things happen and when they do, it's always at the worst possible time.

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears? Now with 3x more gears...
I have a bit of cash, but $50 isn’t going to help much unless your emergency is getting some non-chef roasted chicken with all of the fixings for your family.
