I saw it this afternoon. This is looking East down 12th Ave. I'm guessing they did a fly-by of the Stampede grounds.

Definitely military, and definitely the RCAF. They are using the Herc to drop the skydivers at the Stampede grounds.

Oh man the 787 cannot catch a break, reports of an Ethiopian bird at LHR on fire right now.

Update: Aircraft was empty at the time of the incident, however all arrivals and departures at LHR are currently suspended (gonna be a gong show).

British Airways should keep that POS away from YYC as far as I'm concerned.

We don't even know the reason for the fire yet. It could be something caused by humans aboard the aircraft. Calling it a POS is a low blow at this point.

Perhaps pilots of the 787 need to come up with a catchy tune like the pilots that flew the P-39 in WWII?

"Don't give me a P-39; the engine is mounted behind. She'll tumble and roll, and she'll bore a deep hole. Don't give me a P-39"

I'm sure all the airlines who had their brand new $200M airplanes sitting around with tarps over them for months were thinking things far worse than "what a POS".

Though I suppose given the massive delays that nobody has probably paid anything close to $200M for the aircraft.

Second issue of the day with a 787.

What's the hoopla about these 787's ? Are they new? There seems to be lots of buzz online about them being terrible.

A Ethiopian Airlines 787 caught fire today at Heathrow. This is after the battery issues which included a Japan Airlines 787 catching fire at Boston. Plus a Thomson Airways 787 diverted after take off due to a tech issue. I doubt the two issues today are even closely related but after two fires and the whole battery issue the media/public is trashing the 787.

It is too early to tell if the fire today is related to the battery issues or something totally different. While the 787 has had it's issues, the fear-mongering is unwarranted at this point. At least in my opinion.

The big annoyance with them, apart from their tendency to catch fire, is the massive delays; Air Canada was supposed to start taking delivery of theirs in 2010.

I'm curious how this will effect the sales of the A350

I don't think the A350 even comes into play, it's selling well and even the A330's are completely outselling the 787.

Just thinking out loud, but if these problems persist would Boeing bring back the 767? ie: 767-NextGen?

Not a chance, they're already billions deep into this. Can't bail now.

I saw it too at the Stampede Breakfast at Deer Valley. My suspicion is they were using 16 for takeoffs, since before the F18, there were several airliners fly over.

My wife had to remind me about the airshow when I told my kid to watch the plane!
